I am able to learn in various ways. It all depends on the material and how it is being taught. Some of the lessons that helped me learn include the poetry book project, reading "Fences," and applying the TPCASTT format to my life in order to solve real world problems. I admire my teacher for her effort in trying to LEAD us instead of GIVING us easy grades or assignments. I appreciate those efforts because in the real world, nothing is easy; it's always a competition for something! I got out of Ms. Linn's class because I heard your class was more strict and routined. I think that was the by far the best decision I've made during my senior year. I'm not afraid to admit that I need help in English. But ever since I've been in your class, I feel I've gotten the help that I needed.

I agree with him, and TPCASTT is another technique that has help me break down poems and such things, and it was a great choice to read "fences" because it has made me more interested in plays

I agree, English was easy to me for a certain extent until I got to high school. Getting extra help will be helpful towards the end. I feel that my semester in this class has been very beneficial to my learning and I'm appreciative.

Being in this class has expanded my horizon in many ways. It is one thing to tell, one thing to teach and a whole other thing to involve me into what we are doing. Such as our last lesson about poems, I would have never really understood what different types of poems meant if you would have never gave us your own example and made us do that poetry book. Being able to analysis my essay's using different literary techniques is something that I can say I have grow a lot from in my writing, it makes me actually like English because all of my life I have hated it, maybe because I never really understood that concept of it all but Ms.D has found a way to break it down for me and I can honestly say this class has prepared me for college, and I have a great teacher to thank for that.

Courtney Blair

I agree with Unique, we have learned in so many different ways, and it's a way we can keep it up in college with what she has taught us. Mrs. D has prepared us for college and The strategy we've learned this year will be very helpful next fall in college.

Being in your English class has expanded my learning on things that I was very unsure about. Your class has taught me that things don't come easy. In order to be successful, you have to go and get it on your own. Some techniques that expanded my learning/ gave me a better understanding is the "TPCASTT" . Using that outline gave me the opportunity to increase my grades so I could I do better on my poems. I am very appreciate to have a teacher like you to lead all your students in the right direction. When I first entered your class, I felt like I was going to leave not wanting to ever do English again, but listening to others perspective of you was wrong. That goes to say, "never judge a book by its cover" & "first impression are not always accurate".

all the of the lessons you've taught me this year were beneficial. You taught us the correct way to annotate and to point out smaller but useful things so we can understand what we read. All strategies were "long" and seemed as a "waste of time" but in the end it helped us all. You should keep treating us and teaching us the way that only you do and break it down how you know best for us.Also, when we did our open-ended questions, we'd get our grades back and you'd write out why and comments to the side that we take notes of in our head for future references. All you really have to do for us, is to push and get us out of our comfort zone more. You've done an amazing job at it and know no one else who does it the best.

I agree with Shaniah , being in English class has taught me different resources of English . English is an important speech and an important core in our environment . You can learn different things in different ways . Ms.D taught me how to set-up a essay and how to write it . Being responsible more has also been taught in English and how to manage your time on certain things .

Symphoni Davis
5/13/2015 01:14:15 am

First, I would like to thank you for being yourself. You could've changed up in so many ways, but you didn't. You taught me that everything in life isn't given to you, that if I wanted it that bad I must go out a get it. You also made me realize that everything in life is EARNED not GIVEN. The literary techniques you've taught, is helpful, and I will be using them outside of High School.

I have learned a lot of things academically such as the 3x3 setup for essays an other things.Sorting out the things when doing a 3x3 has helped me a lot with writing my essays,it helps everything go smoother.Another thing we have learned is the TPCASTT that's helps a lot with stories an poems.Mrs.D should just keep doing the same thing she's doing because that's the best way someone can learn in her class.I also have learned to be more responsible in the things that I do in life.

I feel like your class has helped me think outside the box. You help me annotate and when i annotate through out a story or a poem etc,by the very end I will understand the concept. It's a challenging process to analyze each word you don't know but it helps a lot. You should keep doing the vocabulary words, the KISS chart helps me understand words I didn't know. And I like how when you give us our graded work you put a note on what we got wrong. You can stop waiting so much time arguing with your students if they don't want to learn.

Brianna Tolliver

ms d
5/23/2015 03:54:31 am

Miss Chandler,

There are stark differences between arguing and debating, and not wanting to learn and needing clarity.

Sometimes, when students don't understand, they will create confusion and/or chaos to thwart embarrassment. If I simply side-step that student, then I will have left a child behind. And how much time will I have really wasted if those "arguments" give students knowledge that lasts a lifetime?

Joe Dabney
5/13/2015 03:19:56 am

There were some very helpful lessons that made it easier for me to learn but I can't remember exactly which one it was. Academically you should keep doing activities that involves the class being active. That way you could keep the class entertained and keep them engaged in the lesson.

Also I agree with the quote because you can't truly learn something unless you are actually involved in it. That is the best way to learn something and make sure you never forget it.

Ruben Rojas
5/13/2015 05:45:59 am

To answer question one, the assignmens that have helped me learn are the writing assignments that we did through out the year. Ms.D edits them and by editing it, I can see my mistakes or weak points in my writing. It helps me become a better writer in other words. For question two just everything that we been doing through out the semester. For question three, extra credit asingments would be helpful to are grades, that's one way you can better serve us academically.

Fidel Udave
5/15/2015 08:24:49 am

I agree with you Ruben. Mrs d has shown us our mistakes by pointing them out. And I agree with you that extra credit assignments will be very useful to us. Also, the ability to turn in work late would be something useful to have based on the persons situation.

ms. d.
5/19/2015 04:55:03 am

Mr. Udave,

Among many others, one of the reasons I do not accept late work is because I am very generous with the amount of time I give to complete an assignment. Only those who procrastinate complain about me not accepting late work. Six days and sixteen and a half hours is plenty of time to get work turned in, regardless of your situation or circumstance.

Also, as a millennial (and the fact that you attend a STEM school) you receive 21st century education. This means that you are exposed to enough technology to get your work turned in on time, even in your absence. I post all major assignments on our Web site (with those generous deadlines) so you should be able to email or post your assignments, even from the comfort of your bed or vacation lounger.

#ExcusesInThe21stCenturyWon'tDo

ms. d.
5/19/2015 04:59:36 am

Mr. Rojas,

Why is extra credit necessary? If students do their work throughout the year, they would not need it. How would that benefit you as a student academically? I'm curious to know since so many students request it.

L Villatoro 1st period
5/18/2016 05:43:09 pm

It is necessary because students aren't perfect and have many responsibilities to tend to; extra credit would be a helpful tool to give students an opportunity to redeem themselves when they haven't done their best work. Extra credit is not vital but it certainly assists a student when they are behind or haven't been displaying their best work. This is not a crutch for when students don't display their best effort but when they need or want an excuse to try again.

the quote is basically stating that you can tell anyone to do something ,doesn't mean they will or more than likely forget about it cause it can slip their mind, but if you show someone how to do something and go step by step they'll have something to practice and look forward to working and building a skill, there for a person that's actually hands on and working they're building a skill and extending the knowledge of themselves.

I learned many lessons from all my teachers this year. I've only had this class for a semester and the things I learned in Ms. D class that all teachers teach very different. A teacher can always give you the work and tell you to do it. However , A teacher giving you the work , teaching the work , as well involve us to do our own lesson of an example from the work. Keep Letting us know what is done and needs to be done , as well as actually give us an example help me through most assignments.

I'm more focused this year than I've ever been, because mrs. D stay on me and make sure I do what I'm supposed to do. A lesson that i remember doing that helped me is learning about literary devices and techniques of stories, poems, and articles. This helped me because it allowed me as a reader to see the imagery and feel the mood while reading which in the end helps understand the point of what i'am reading. Learning about these techniques and devices has allowed me to develope better writing skills, and how to make a story, poem, or article epic by using words. Academic wise, you should just keep doing what you're doing because i really enjoy the way you teach and make us think. You do this by guiding instead of giving which makes me think and in return stays in my memory.

One thing that u need to keep doing academicly is tpcast. I honestly don't know how to do that because I don't like poems. All throughout school I have struggled with writing good essays. Ever since I got into this class my writing skills have improved to a more collegiate and savvy level. I now know how to "show and not tell" what I am trying to convey to whomever may be reading my work, and I am more confident in my ability to write. This class has made me more optimistic, open-minded, and outgoing when it comes to academics. Four years ago, English was nothing more than an enemy I hated with a burning passion. Now I can say that I am infatuated with the skills that I have obtained, and I am now ready to take on all the work I will be challenged with in college. Thank you Ms.d.

This statement is a 100%. A person thinks about millions of things a day; for a teacher to tell you information and expect you to remember it, that's absurd. Involving a person teaches the most. You're actually up & active, were are forced to be interested because you have to know what you're doing. All learning should involve the person being taught.
To belter serve us academically you should just involve us more! Everything else is nice; all teachers need to involve the students more. Students minds go elsewhere during lecture, especially if it's not a fun or interesting topic.

I know well what is learned is never forgotten. For example, to know how to walk, or how to ride a bicycle. For me it is a little difficult to learn just by reading or listening. The best technique that helps me is to use concept maps and images. Some of the lessons we practice were TPCAST which helped me to understand the poems, the kiss-chart for the vocabulary, and the poetry book. These techniques have helped me a lot. I sincerely believe they can help many others like me, who find the subject of English some kind of difficult. Academically everyone learning techniques is different but ms. She should keep using her teaching techniques because those are really helpful.

The ACEstrategy to do open-ended questions, the 3×3 to break my essay down instead of just freestyling of the dome and TPCAST to help breakdown the concept of a poem. To me, I feel that you should keep informing your future students what you have been teaching, it has been very beneficial to me and my peers so you should keep doing the same thing. That lesson is the one that stook to my head more than the rest. You should keep doing everything that you are already doing because you are a great teacher. One thing you can do is give students extra credit to make up for assignments they weren't able to turn in instead of not taking it at all. 1. The little time that I was here, the lesson over poetry assisted me in learning more because we weren't just reading and answering questions or writing an essay. We had to use our brains and think deeper than what was given to us in the text.
2. Keep requiring students to participate and speak in front of the class or an audience, it helps regardless of if the student realizes the purpose or not.
3. Have more open tutorial sessions. You make yourself available enough but if students knew how helpful and unique it is rather than sitting in class lost and on their phones, they would probably attend more.

Being in this English class with such a great writer as a teacher has helped me open up to my writing more. I've learned many writing techniques that have helped me so much when it comes to writing a paper of any sort. By using the 3×3 strategy, i was able to organize my writing and helped me stay on subject . Many things that help me to remember and apply new details to my work, is when you give examples and show videos. It helps me get a better picture of how things are supposed to be done. Also having classmates go up and explain their process of getting things done helps as well. By continuing to show videos and give great examples can make a big difference because the videos are catchy and give multiple examples. It also makes a difference when you bring real life situation in the picture, it lets us know to take writing and many other thungs more serious.

One lesson we did this year that really helped me in your class was understanding the A.C.E strategy. I really didn't understand the strategy until I got in your class you were able to break down the parts that I really need especially the real world connections.you made me think outside of the box "there is really no such thing as a box."I also learned how to become a better writer and expand my vocabulary. I use to think why is this crazy women giving us such little time and so much work to do.but really writing those six page essays and 3 page essays helped me out big time especially for the big test it was so easy to me because i already knew how to pace my time on writing things and etc.one skill you should keep for your future students is make them get into the lesson and keep pushing and motivating them to keep doing their best at all times even when it gets hard. At the end of the day no one wants to fail everyone wants to be a scholar.you can help me out academically by helping me understand what a strong argument really is because I can give an argument or claim but I'm not able to go in debt with it and I need help ASAP. Other than that you have been a great teacher and a role model and I hope all your future students will feel the same way!

One lesson that helped me learn the most had to be annotating, it helped me have a better understanding of what I was reading. Another lesson was the 3x3 before actually writing stories. The 3x3 helped me with being organized and know exactly what I was going to write my stories and essays over. Making your students read more is one of the many academic things you should keep doing and also not giving us the easy way out and actually work for what you deserve is the academic things you should keep doing. To serve your students better I feel like you should try to be a little more understanding but I know everything you do is for your own reason.

The constant lessons on how to organize an essay and how to clearly get your message across to the audience was a life saver. I feel that was a huge lesson to learn as I delve deeper into the world of writing. Academically, I should keep writing. I must expand my vocabulary and learn more life lessons if I ever plan on writing a book in the future. What can I do better to serve people academically? I shouldn't just give 110%, I have to give it 200%. There is much to expand on and not only learn, but teach.

The lesson that really stuck to me was the PBL the assignment was to find an underserved issue and make a documentary about it. And the PBL really had me thinking and working to develop a argument that would grab and hold the auitence attention. The academic thing you should keep doing it the bell ringer with the pictures so the student can interpret what they believe the image means. You could be in class or offent because your a great teacher but with you busy schedule sometime your not in class.

One of the lessons we did this year that helped me learn more was being able to annotate properly. I was able to look deeper into the story than I ever have. I believe you should keep engaging the students into the lessons or any topic we talk about because no one is left out and we are all focused. To better serve me or my classmates is probably make us come out our shell more because we are still in confident to speak out on some topics

Grammar and Figurative language lessons helped me mostly throughout the year. You gave each of us a chance to better and correct ourselves and our writing.

You've done everything academically toward helping us succeed . I would say just keep being you.
You do what you can always to make sure we are all together. I think you did an awesome job teaching me . Thank-you

One lesson that i learned this year thus helping me improve the way i read and aanser questions till this moment is annotating. I believe you should keep teaching the way you do and not giving people awnsers because thats how i learned the most within your class. What you could have dine to better my academic readiness is provide more typed essays instead of written ones, who WRITES essays in college ms.d?

1.Using the 3x2 Prewriting Strategy, helped me gather my thoughts and ideas to write an essay. Second, using the T.P.C.A.S.T.T Strategy, helped me to understand a poem better and answer the questions with understanding, with no confusion on what the the main idea of the poem was about.
2. You should keep using the 3x2 Prewriting Strategy, because it helped me and others become better writers. When I first started taking your class, I couldn't even organize my ideas or stay on topic, but now I know how to organize my ideas, flow, and stay on topic.
3. With all honesty, you don't have to make anything better for me, because being in your class challenged me to the best that I could be in my writing and reading skills. Also, your doctrine and teachings, were a whole lot better than my previous reading and writing teachers, and for that I thank you ms.d for being my english teacher.

Your class has taught me that things don't come easy. In order to be successful, you have to want it for yourself. Some techniques that expanded my learning/ gave me a better understanding is the "TPCASTT". The breaking down of poems was very much so a foreign language until you taught TPCASTT. One thing you can do to better your teaching skills is nothing . Your teaching skills are great right where they are.

One of the lessons I learned most from is doing the 3x2 , it really helps to put a excellent essay together to perform a great outcome of a story. Also a academic skill you should continue is not answer a question but oppose a question to make that person think more in depth to not stay inside the box and let them know it's not one. And to let them think on your their own , I've really have gotten used to that and it's very helpful to me. I only had your class one time but within the time frame of your teaching, your skills are suitable for me and are very challenging which makes it better.

The most useful lesson I learned this year was the 3x3 because I had never extended my knowledge on the subject and it gives me immense help when doing essays. I believe you should continue as you have been in the aspect of academic views but the most important thing is pushing your children in and outside the classroom with EnglishFury. You can better serve us by providing different learning styles in the classroom.

The useful lesson I've learned is the 3×3. I was never a good writer, by me doing the 3×3 I was able to put my mind to my writing. I use to hurry up and try to think of something then I end up repeating myself in my paper. I think you should keep doing what your doing on academic views, the most important thing is you want us to be the best writers. I wouldn't change anything about your teaching. Your the first English teacher I've actually learned from.

I have learned so much in English this year just by the little things you have taught 3x3 Figurative Language and TPCASTT has indicated the understanding of an essay. I feel as if the teachers got more involved with there students there will be a better outcome. I completely agree with that statement.

In Ms.d class, you will always learn something new. Like the 3x3, using the writer tool box, and also the ACE strategy. Somethings i will be doing when i graduate and go to college will be still using the writer tool box. But somethings i can do better is using different words and stop repeating myself when i write a essay. But other then that i learn a lot and change how i write

I was very afraid entering Ms. D's class because of the rumors of how difficult she was. I came so close to changing my class from hers to another teacher. As I look back at that, I'm very grateful for turning my back on that idea. The lessons she taught were no different from any other english teacher at LHS, so (to say), it wasn't what she taught me, it was how she taught me. Insteading of just teaching about the topic at hand, she would break it down, allowing me to gain a full understanding. She made everything challenging, and I appreciate this method of teaching.

Everything she does always comes from a good place, even academics. I feel that her methods should continue to remain the same, and if she decides to make any changes, they'll be for the best.

Ms. D is one of the few educators to actually TEACH her students. Like mentioned before, her methods should continue on as such until she is ready for a change.

Through out this English course I have learned many new things. The most helpful one to me is the 3x3, it helps me set up the base to what I will be writing. I never did enjoy writing and to this point I still don't but it is a skill I shall need in the future, I am grateful to my teacher, Ms.D for teaching me on how to improve the way I write and set up my poem. The way she teaches is very intriguing, the way she is able to make a big story out of one quote or statement. Her class is one to never forget, even if she Booked us with work.

Some of the lessons we did that helped me learn this year was the 3by3 pre writing stragtegy and also annotating a poem or a story . I think Ms. d should just keep teaching the way she does . She make us think out side the tiny circle and sometimes it may be difficult for some . She taught us how to engage in our writing to not make it seem boring . This class has taught me to better manage my time and that it's okay to be wrong. There isn't a particular lesson, but your teaching style that keeps me engaged and wanting to learn more. It pushes me to keep learning because you enforce that. Most teachers let you procrastinate ignoring the fact that it isn't allowing us to be ready for the world ahead. In my opinion there is not a thing you could do better but keep being you. You give us every resource we may need.

    Mixed Ink

Mixed Ink is our class blog, the window into our souls. It was designed to improve students' writing, critical thinking and communication skills by giving them a platform to provide meaningful content based on their interpretation of what they see.

Although the students receive a grade based on a rubric for completing this assignment, they are not graded on complexity of thought. This is a place where students of all levels can freely, confidently and creatively express themselves and their opinions in a nonjudgmental platform. They are required to respond to and critique each other, but degradation, slander, lewdness, etc., will not be tolerated.

    Bridge Builders

All subjects are vital to learning, but  English is the bridge of communication. So let's build the arch, one word at a time...

    • Be aware of current events
    • Write concisely
