Sergio Morales-3A-
It's not that we lack intelligence, but we are lazy enough as a generation to dumb down communication this way. I personally don't really use filter words and when I do, I usually use it as a joke. But I understand that this is a flaw within our generation.

B Jasso 3A
4/1/2024 01:43:04 pm

I agree with you, we're lazy and in order for us to be "effective" we use slang, we feel like we don't have so much time to really speak, so we use slang in order to get a point through.

jaylen hill
4/1/2024 02:03:44 pm

I agree we do dumb everything down

Stewart z 4A
4/2/2024 09:18:03 am

I agree we abbreviate everything.

Amalio Garcia 1A
4/3/2024 09:12:41 am

I'ma have to agree with you Mr. Jasso, we tend to simple things to our liking which may lead to our next generation having a struggle to use big words.

A Giles 1A
4/1/2024 02:05:18 pm

I feel like when technology started to grow we started to become lazier. Which I think is true because any technology not just phones has made everything that we do even easier than it was.

Shankle,A 1A
4/2/2024 05:01:14 pm

I agreed that people are getting lazier because of the technology. People are not thinking on what they saying to people and they just getting lazier and lazier.

N Rainey 1a
4/3/2024 08:44:36 am

I agree I feel like this generation is just lazy not so much of lacking anything I feel like back then in older people generation y'all didn't have technology so it was more strict

Amalio Garcia 1A
4/3/2024 09:14:05 am

Agreed, technology has made us lazier as instead of looking things through a dictionary we rather google it and if we don't know anything we just do a simple click and we will have everything summarized by an AI bot.

B Jasso 3A
4/3/2024 12:20:07 pm

I agree with you, once we found out that technology was a thing, we started to get lazier and use slang that we found on social media. Social media has really made us lazy, and has made us not believe or use the true meaning of words.

T Brooks
4/3/2024 12:30:43 pm

I agree, we use technology for everything

C Nwachukwu 7B
4/3/2024 02:43:10 pm

I agree and I feel like if some people picked up a book their vocabulary would grow in a way they would be able to explain things without filler words.

Bethany A.
4/4/2024 01:07:17 pm

I diagree I feel like those words are more of an expression or slang.

Nox (Katelyn) Sears 8b
4/4/2024 02:46:13 pm

We use text slang a lot instead of actually using correct grammar. wanna, gonna, aren't actual words. Um like literally... yeahhhh when did we learn to speak like this.

T Samuels 6b
4/4/2024 04:53:14 pm

I agree, since technology is evolving we take advantage of that and depend on it more to the point where we would rather be on social media than reading a book.

D Davis 6B
4/5/2024 01:46:09 pm

I agree, technology has made us lazier because the answers to almost everything we need is a couple clicks away.

Contreras M 6B
4/5/2024 11:51:36 pm

Yes I feel that technology had such an impact on younger generations. Not causing them to use filler words more but I feel that it does impact it.

M, Gibb 1A
4/2/2024 09:21:25 am

I agree with you we are lazy when it comes to how me all communicate. There is a lot of flaws with our generation especially with our language.

Kinlaw E 3A
4/2/2024 12:25:43 pm

I can agree that laziness could play a factor to how people talk but I believe that this is not a flaw.

Diaz Z 1A
4/5/2024 11:58:12 am

I disagree, it is a flaw because being lazy is not proper english but i have no room to talk because I myself get lazy and use words like, yk,ik, ong.

Camarillo M 3A
4/3/2024 12:28:26 pm

i agree sometime it slip out and not all people can think fast but most people can.

T Samuel’s 6b
4/4/2024 04:48:08 pm

Agreed, we are lazy when it comes to communicating because we often use slang.

C Valdez 1A
4/5/2024 09:17:44 am

I agree, I think it's because we get lazier with our words. We don't think before we speak as much as we used to. I think the reason we use filler words more is when we need time to come up with a response.

Sanchez 6
4/5/2024 12:01:06 pm

I agree, I think it's a weakness that we need to fix in order to communicate respectfully with others.

A Bradley 4A
4/5/2024 06:26:23 pm

I agree, because we just don’t feel like using academic communication, but that doesn’t mean we’re not smart.

K Jacinto 3A
4/5/2024 10:46:28 pm

I agree and disagree, I think it is a lack of intelligence because they are use as a stalling words when one can’t think of something to say. Also laziness when chatting it up.

4/1/2024 01:32:58 pm

I think its everyone as a hole or society that doesnt know how to talk and how we slang words or how we talk to our friends

jaylen hill
4/1/2024 02:04:57 pm

I believe people talk differently in different circumstances

Tyren D 4A
4/2/2024 09:59:47 am

I agree everyone does talk differently depending on not only the circumstances but even the person at certain times.

T Brooks
4/3/2024 12:32:07 pm

I agree because if I'm on the phone with my friends I talk crazy but if its about business I talk professional

B Jasso 3A
4/1/2024 01:41:58 pm

It's not that we lack wording. We're just lazy, and we decide to learn smaller words in order to get to a point, We say "um" if we're not sure of something. We say "like" whenever we're trying to compare things without even realizing it. And we use "you know" when we want people to relate to what we're saying. It's not because we don't learn, we do it because we're lazy and don't feel like using full words.

jaylen h
4/1/2024 02:06:16 pm

I think we talk comfortable at home or around family or friends

Diaz Z 1A
4/5/2024 11:59:37 am

I agree, we get comfortable and let loose and not be so up tight, i fell like theres a time and place to talk proper like a job interview or meetings etc.

A Giles 1A
4/1/2024 02:07:09 pm

I agree with you I feel like in this time of day we have found words that are more simple than before, then again that does go with the fact we are now less respectful in our wording.

C Da Silva 1A
4/2/2024 09:45:51 am

I agree with you, we just might feel more comfortable speaking a certain way. I also think that if we can make something easier, why not just do it.

N Rainey 1a
4/3/2024 08:43:04 am

I agree I don't think its a lack I think this generation just use the fast way around things

T.Gray 1A
4/3/2024 10:33:03 am

I agree because people shorten words that doesn't needs to be shorten

Sergio Morales link
4/3/2024 12:57:40 pm

Sergio Morales-3A-
Yeah, that makes sense. These words do have meaning, but mostly the newer generations use them. Which could mean that the older generations have a harder time getting used to listening to someone who talks this way. They would expect everyone to speak in a more formal, correct way.

George Arellano 4A
4/3/2024 02:39:21 pm

I agree the way we articulate makes it seem not intelligent but these are just words that help portray something we are trying to say.

C Nwachukwu 7B
4/3/2024 02:53:09 pm

I agree that we've gotten lazy as a society and technology has also played a big part in how we try work around the things we say.

Z.woods 6b
4/4/2024 11:51:02 am

I disagree with you using the term lazy. I feel as though using those words are more convenient to the conversations.

A,Martinez 7B
4/4/2024 04:50:05 pm

I agree this generation is getting lazier and is substituting respectful vocabulary with easier words.

C Valdez 1A
4/5/2024 09:25:54 am

I agree with this I think it's because everyone uses it so much that we don't realize we're not supposed to be talking like that. I think the reason we use filler words more often is because it's easier and it's more common to talk to your friends and siblings like that and it becomes a habit. I think its also us being lazy and talking to everyone the same way we talk to our friends.

K Jacinto 3A
4/5/2024 10:48:34 pm

I agree, I thinks it’s just a generational decay of vocabulary, and plainly laziness.

M. Evbuomwan 8b
4/5/2024 11:03:34 pm

I agree most of us use that kind of wording because we are lazy not because we lack the ability to be articulate

jaylen hill
4/1/2024 02:02:29 pm

I wouldn't call it lack of wording I just don't feel like we need to use big words all the time or need to sound smart all the time just cause u talk a certain way doesn't mean you lack anything

Stewart Z 4A
4/2/2024 09:14:15 am

i agree just because you dont use big words while talking or conversing dont mean your lacking anything.

Kinlaw E 3A
4/2/2024 12:23:48 pm

I agree that just by talking a certain way does not mean lack in any intelligence that you have. It is just another way to talk and has nothing to do with intelligence.

Lee, J 1A
4/3/2024 08:40:57 am

I agree It's not about using big words or sounding smart all the time. Just because we talk in a certain way doesn't mean we lack anything.

Sergio Morales link
4/3/2024 01:03:46 pm

Sergio Morales-3A-
I do agree that just because we do use these words, doesn't mean that we lack anything. But I don't think the term, "sound smart" is the correct way to differentiate the two. Maybe replace it with, "sound correctly communicative."

jadian rivers 7b
4/5/2024 09:18:11 am

I agree because it don't matter at the end of the day. we still get the same point across.

A Giles 1A
4/1/2024 02:03:15 pm

I do not think that we lack wording but just that we have evolved and mixed many many cultures maybe to the fact that we "lack" wording. More like we are also a lazy generation but then again how did we become the lazy generation. We learn from our parents, not saying its our parents fault.

M, Gibb 1A
4/2/2024 09:14:40 am

I agree and disagree with you because I do believe we lack but also we are lazy in the generation. You can always learn from our parents and we choose not to listen.

George Arellano 4A
4/3/2024 02:38:14 pm

I agree the way of speech is not due to lack of intelligence but from mixture of cultures and different speech patterns seen in different generations.

L.Speed 1A
4/5/2024 12:56:47 pm

We are just lazy and always halfway doing shit

4/2/2024 09:05:48 am

jadian rivers 7b
4/5/2024 09:13:55 am

Yes I agree as long as you can turn it on and off when need be it shouldn't matter

Stewart Z 4A
4/2/2024 09:08:11 am

I don ´ t think it's lacking anything if you can abbreviate you words and make it short and simple. But as long as you dont write how you text or talk.

C Da Silva 1A
4/2/2024 09:42:19 am

pretty much, if you can make something easier then why not do it. I also agree that we shouldn't talk the way we text because it might be cause problems when communicating.

Nox (Katelyn) Sears 8b
4/4/2024 02:47:49 pm

Yeah we don't need to write how we text, because when we need a job or college, or anything professional, we have to be able to speak and communicate properly.

M, Gibb 1A
4/2/2024 09:12:04 am

when we use the worse "like" "um" and "you know" it is kids being lazy and not waiting to say a sentence with correct grammar. This also causes us do be a little unsmart when it comes to writing and talking, but is isn't because we can't learn it. It is because we are to lazy we find the easiest to get something done.

Shankle,A 1A
4/2/2024 05:06:01 pm

Yes I agree the kids are being lazy and not waiting to say a sentence with correct grammar. And many people really talk like that by saying 'like", "um", and "you know" in reality and they saying by text and that's how they talked. And there a lot of people are just being lazy and they just want to think.

D Davis 6B
4/5/2024 01:44:55 pm

I agree, using the easiest way to get something out does make us seem a little unintelligent.

C Da Silva 1A
4/2/2024 09:39:17 am

I don't think we lack intelligence, to me abbreviating words is just a way to simplify the way we talk. I wouldn't say we lack intelligence but instead that we can be a little lazy when it comes to the way we want to speak.

Q Sanders 3A
4/3/2024 12:28:46 pm

I also agree because its used so much around us and it just a easy way to get words from others to understand easily

J. Lira 1A
4/4/2024 11:15:16 am

Sometimes we can't even control it, we are told not to use them in situations like interviews or formal conversations but they would naturally come out. We have become so used to filler words that it is more difficult to control them.

Camarillo M 3A
4/2/2024 09:45:30 am

I don't believe this generation is dumb, after all, news reporters often use the words filtered words like "um" to find their words. Though, I do agree that we could maybe use different words to make us sound a little less slow and stuff.

Z.woods 6b
4/4/2024 11:48:11 am

I disagree with the last statement you wrote. Using filter words doesn't make us sound slow, it's a part of urban slang.

Tyren D 4A
4/2/2024 09:58:00 am

I feel like the use of the words such as "like" "um" "you know" are not slowing down the newer generation I just feel like there are other ways to express yourself.

L Vargas 1A
4/4/2024 11:33:01 pm

I can agree with your statement because in reality shortening your conversation is way better than making it longer than it has to be.

Kinlaw E 3A
4/2/2024 12:22:34 pm

I feel that just because we use filler words like that does not mean we lack intelligence in any way. Speaking a proper way does not represent how much intelligence one has. Almost everyone young or not could use words like that.

N Parker 7B
4/4/2024 11:56:14 am

I agree with what you said, everyone can use words like that. No matter the age.

A Martinez 7B
4/5/2024 10:20:15 pm

I agree, intelligence is not always defined by the way we talk.

Shankle, A 1A
4/2/2024 04:58:01 pm

Want I seen so far that people just lazy for trying to say the word that they trying to say. They need to find a different word that are similar then say Umm or Like or even you know. Its just not going to be good for even in college even going to the military its even texting people on the phone.

Williams J 1A
4/3/2024 09:59:09 am

Its a lot of slang in our generation because of the environment and social media we see everyday.

Lee,J 1A
4/3/2024 08:37:32 am

I don't think it's fair to judge someone's smarts based on filler words alone. Like, we all use 'em sometimes, It's just how we naturally talk.

T.Gray 1A
4/3/2024 10:31:41 am

I agree because you should treat people how you want to be treated

Q Sanders 3A
4/3/2024 12:26:23 pm

I agree its just how we talk to get our point across to others around our age

Jaylon Wilson 4A
4/4/2024 08:53:45 am

I agree because were so used to it and that's just how we talk and how we naturally talk

M Johnson 1A
4/5/2024 10:33:38 am

I agree. filler words have nothing to do with our level of intelligenents.

N Rainey 1a
4/3/2024 08:41:29 am

I don't think we aren't intelligent but I think its that we use those words as a crutch

L Vargas 1A
4/4/2024 12:36:04 pm

I can agree with your statement cause it's much more easier to shorten the text instead of writing a whole paragraph stating your statement.

Amalio Garcia 1A
4/3/2024 09:10:04 am

The overuse of filler words in speech can make communication less coherent and confident, detracting from the message being conveyed. As it seems on our speech it’s giving less character or attention as it is attempted, it’s mostly because of students and I included are lazy to use “smart” words and would rather have it nice and simple.

Williams J 1A
4/3/2024 09:57:50 am

I agree because our generation is very lazy and just not dependable.

J. Lira 1A
4/4/2024 11:13:01 am

It gets to the point where students embed filler words in our vocabulary. So even though they tell us not to use them, we naturally use them since we've become accustomed.

Williams J 1A
4/3/2024 09:56:44 am

I think we actually lack proper speech in our generation because of the stuff we watch and read.

Alynette Delgado 6B
4/5/2024 01:07:54 pm

I dont agree since it is not only our generations

T.Gray 1A
4/3/2024 10:30:01 am

I don't believe that this generation is dumb i feel like its just a habit or saying "like', or "umm."

Jaylon Wilson 4A
4/4/2024 08:52:53 am

I agree because we used it for so long its glued in our head

Q Sanders 3A
4/3/2024 12:25:17 pm

I think its just our generation language and its something we just all picked up on and shows a easy way to get a understanding across

Alynette Delgado 6B
4/5/2024 01:07:16 pm

I dont agree since some teachers say "umm" a lot as well.

Brooks T 7B
4/3/2024 12:34:08 pm

I don't think we lack intelligence I just think we just prefer to use that word choice.

McGee D 3A
4/3/2024 12:45:28 pm

I feel as its not lazy its just how some people grow up and some people grew up with parents or family member that talk with a slang and the kid not knowing its a slang the slang that they use is going to grow on to the kid and the kid will eventually talk like them.

C Nwachukwu 7B
4/3/2024 02:33:47 pm

I don't think it's the fact that we lack intelligence, but the fact that we always try to find ways to beat around the bush when we talk. Sometimes filler words are used because nervousness or anxiety when speaking.

Joshua Deleon 6B
4/4/2024 10:23:46 am

Agreed I don't think filler words are because of no intelligence I believe that when we use um or other words it is all slang. I believe that we say them because we speak usually quicker.

George Arellano 4A
4/3/2024 02:36:29 pm

I agree with what was said the perception of my generation is often looked down upon especially in a literature sense. These use of filler words are not because of the lack of intelligence but rather a different way of speech for varying generations.

Joshua Deleon 6B
4/4/2024 10:20:56 am

Agreed, I believe that the words are not because we are lacking intelligence. It is from slang and other habits from growing up. I understand how lder generation may see it but I am not dumber ngl.

Jaylon Wilson 4A
4/4/2024 08:52:23 am

I don't think it's that were lazy i think it's just more simple to put slang or abbreviations

J Deleon 6B
4/4/2024 10:18:39 am

The filler words are usually habit, I don't believe that they are ways to see un intelligence I don't think it makes you dum,b, its just slang.

J. Lira 1A
4/4/2024 11:10:32 am

Although filler words make people seem dumb, most of the time we use filler words because we need more time to think of a response. Saying "um" before a sentence provides more time to think of a proper response rather than giving awkward silence. We are told not to use filler words, however we have become accustomed to them to the point that they come out naturally.

N Parker 7B
4/4/2024 11:54:40 am

I agree with what you've said, we just like to use filler words for a response.

C.lott 3A
4/5/2024 09:19:26 am

I agree, it makes people sound not so intelligent. Using filler words excessively can make a speaker seem unprepared or unconfident. It leads to confusion as well as loss of interest from the listener. Lastly, it makes the speech less clearand concise.

M Fairley 6B
4/5/2024 09:12:01 pm

I agree. Me personally, my brain thinks a lot faster than my mouth is able to move, so I often use these filler words or even stutter to allow my brain to slow down enough to provide an actual sentence. My own use of these filler words allows me the ability to even have a coherent conversation with people. It may come off as too casual in some situations, but I think something like that is relatively minute all things considered.

Z.woods 6b
4/4/2024 11:44:52 am

I don't think using filter words makes us less articulate or intelligent. Using the words like "like," "um," "you know" in contemporary speech serves a purpose in creating a smoother conversation flow.

Bethany A.
4/4/2024 01:06:27 pm

I agree with what you’re saying it can make a conversation smoother or they can just be used as an expression.

C.lott 3A
4/5/2024 09:16:10 am

I agree, I thinks its a positve way of the speaker gaining their thoughts, trying to maintain the flow of the conversation. Also, it helps emphasize certain points through text. It can make the speaker appear more relatable and conversational.

N Parker 7B
4/4/2024 11:53:48 am

I do not think we lack the ability to have intelligence, using those words are just an easier and faster way to explain what we have to say. it is that we are lazy.

L Vargas 1A
4/4/2024 12:33:28 pm

The truth is not that we lack the intelligence to speak properly the reason behind all this is because this generation prefers to shorten their text in reality it makes it much more easier.

Bethany A.
4/4/2024 01:05:20 pm

I agree and disagree, filler words are making things more dumb down but they also are just words used when a person isn’t completely sure abt something, or they can be considered an expression.

M Johnson 1A
4/5/2024 10:26:59 am

I agree because I'm very smart and I use it for filler words all the time. but am lazy

Dontae Eley 4A
4/5/2024 10:04:40 pm

It's somewhat of a double-edged sword. Because of this, I believe it is just best to stray away from such speech in general.

Nox (Katelyn) Sears 8b
4/4/2024 02:43:17 pm

I feel like this generation has gotten weak on communication. I don't think we lost intelligence. We have just gotten very lazy with the way we speak and communicate.

T Samuels 6b
4/4/2024 04:55:12 pm

While filler words like "like," "um," and "you know" are common in contemporary speech, they don't necessarily reflect a lack of articulacy or intelligence. They often serve as pauses or placeholders while we organize our thoughts. So judging intelligence based on these habits overlooks the complexity of communication and the diversity of expression within different generations.

C.lott 3A
4/5/2024 09:12:17 am

Using slang words does not necessarily mean that we humans lack intelligence. The use of it does not determine whether or not a persons's intelligence level is not there. Its just a natural and creative way of communicating with others.

jadian rivers 7b
4/5/2024 09:14:59 am

I feel like people in the world don't even care if you use big words and it shouldn't even matter. Only time I feel like we should talk more professional is when talking to your boss or elders.

C Valdez 1A

I think the reason we use filler words so much is because talking in slang makes us lazier and we use slang to talk faster. We end up having to use filler when we need time to come up with what to say. I think the reason we talk like this now is because slang is common and it makes us build bad communication habits.

I agree, We've become so accustomed to speaking like that, it's actually making us lazy when it comes to communicating.

M Fairley 6B
4/5/2024 09:06:14 pm

I wouldn't say lazier, but more so casual. When speaking we definitely use "like" and "um" more with our friends and family than say, a boss at work. I believe it's that line of professionalism that really separates it. Of course, those words will slip out even in those environments, but I don't think it's out of an act of laziness.

I agree Using slang feels more lazier and comfortable and it’s very common

M Johnson 1A

I think that being lazy is part of the problem but I also think its become a normal thing to say so its become a part of everyday speech.

Diaz Z 1A
4/5/2024 12:02:23 pm

I agree, it will become our way of talking if we dont change it now.

C. Deane 6B
4/5/2024 12:39:07 pm

I agree with you, it's always being said, and you start to talk the way you here.

D Hurth 3A
4/5/2024 09:13:11 pm

I agree. Using slang words has constantly been put to use which now makes abbreviations normalized.

Sanchez 6b
4/5/2024 11:55:24 am

I believe our communication skills may be lacking, or maybe we're just a bit lazy overall, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're unintelligent. I think some people just prefer to use shortcuts to speak more quickly and avoid saying too many words.

Johnson M 1A 2
4/5/2024 06:49:10 pm

We are getting lazy with everything nowadays. I feel as though we could keep some things as they are. We should try to use better vocabulary when talking to each other.

D Cruz 3 A
4/5/2024 08:42:51 pm

Agreed. We need to do better at using the correct grammar because of the image it puts out. They all have the same meaning, except the newer generation puts words in simpler terms.

Diaz Z 1A
4/5/2024 12:01:51 pm

it is lazy its just how some people talk with parents or family member. But as a society we should be better and try to do better, Using shortcut words arent good for us. Soon we will just get to used to talking like that and we wont see a problem with it.

Brown R. 8B
4/5/2024 10:37:33 pm

I do agree to an extent because we ask a society shouldn’t be using shortcuts. However, it isn’t the biggest thing.

C. Deane 6B
4/5/2024 12:37:38 pm

I think it has just become a normal thing that has been implemented in to our everyday speech.

L.Speed 1A
4/5/2024 12:53:32 pm

I agree it has become normal in our everyday life

D Cruz 3A
4/5/2024 09:09:02 pm

Exactly. Using the same words constantly just turns into an everyday normal. Slang is pretty much normalized throughout the world.

Dontae Eley
4/5/2024 10:03:12 pm

I agree that it has became the norm of life, however, just because it is the norm, doesnt mean it's necessarily good

We're lazy and in order for us to be "effective" we use slang, we feel like we don't have so much time to really speak

Alynette Delgado 6B
4/5/2024 01:04:55 pm

Using words such as "like", "umm", or "very" can display a lack of vocabulary pursuit when used in high volumes. However, if used sparingly it does not reflect ones knowledge of other words or phrases.

Johnson M 1A 2
4/5/2024 06:20:14 pm

Most of us use these words to start sentences or when we can't find the right words. It's best that we start to better ourselves in order to become better for the future generations.

D Cruz 3A
4/5/2024 08:35:43 pm

I see your point of view. Certain words we use display that we lack vocabulary or are too lazy to use it but I think lacking intelligence is a stretch, especially if hardly put to use. Some people may just be nervous to speak or overly excited causing them to say “um” or “like” .

Brown R. 8B
4/5/2024 10:02:44 pm

I don’t agree with you purely because saying things like that don’t show a lack of vocabulary. People say things like that to think of a response.

D Davis 6B
4/5/2024 01:40:31 pm

I think those words can show a lack of articulacy because "um" and "you know" can make it seem like we don't know what we're talking about and thinking of what to say next.

D Hurth 3A
4/5/2024 08:53:25 pm

Agreed. I believe we tend to talk faster and/or speak before we think. Which makes it seem as if we’re unsure of what to say.

C, Ramirez 3A
4/5/2024 09:53:00 pm

What about those who have anxiety or stutter? We don't mean to use those words its just the only thing we can use to keep us from freaking out. It just helps us express ourselves better.

Johnson M 1A 2
4/5/2024 05:47:06 pm

When it comes to using filler words,it can shorten our intelligence. I admit I also use filler from time to time, but not as much. I try my best to better my vocabulary and how I say things.

D Cruz 3A
4/5/2024 08:32:23 pm

From my point of view, I don’t think us abbreviating or using certain words makes us less intelligent. Lazy? Yes. but dumb? No. The newer generation knows what to say correctly a lot of the time but breaks it down into something smaller and easier.

D. Hurth 3A
4/5/2024 08:50:51 pm

People mix up lack of intelligence and making things easier. Slang is used to put out a word faster than if someone was to use the actual word. Words such as “um” and “like” often come from nerves or people who blank out. Also, “like” is a very common word, so it makes sense as to why people use it.

M Fairley 6B
4/5/2024 08:55:17 pm

I think that mindset contributes to a lack of intelligence more than anything. The use of those words, although filler, doesn't stop me from getting my point across in whatever I could be talking about. Also, there's people, like me, who are awkward and anxious when speaking and can't exactly help the use of those words. That doesn't mean that I am unable to articulate my sentences nor that I'm unintelligent in my speech and thinking that way no matter who you are just shows ignorance.

C, Ramirez 3A
4/5/2024 09:48:16 pm

Agreed, just because I puase doesnt mean I'm less intelligent than everybody else. I personally use it as because of my anxiety I stutter and use many "umms" and "like".

C, Ramirez 3A
4/5/2024 09:41:09 pm

This statement sounds like the ramblings of the older generations who are unable to grasp the concept of filler words as a form of expression. Every generation has different form of filler words so arguing that the use of them contributed to the perception of the current generation lacking intelligence in and of itself shows the lack of intellectual capacity of those who spew such nonsense. The only thing contributing to the perception of the current generations "lack" of intelligence is the lack of awareness older generations have for how society has changed from their time to modern day. Their perception is what is wrong, and the fact they lack social awareness of it, speaks volumes.

Brown R. 8B
4/5/2024 09:49:45 pm

I’m fine with filler words like “um”, and “you know”. The majority of the time it’s used when someone lost their train of thought or is thinking about how to respond. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Dontae Eley 4A
4/5/2024 10:01:59 pm

This generation has the lowest IQ yet, and it clearly shows how and why. Students and even people in general lack proper knowledge of literacy and speech because they are too focused on social media like Twitter and Tiktok, likewise, so many people say "uh" "like" and so on because it has unfortunately become the norm for speaking, even though it is improper.

A Martinez 7B
4/5/2024 10:31:11 pm

I feel that using “filler” words isn’t necessarily a lack of intelligence. Everyone uses these words in a way to get a point across. Maybe it’s on the tip of your tongue, or you need help providing a better description.

K Jacinto 3A
4/5/2024 10:52:12 pm

Well what I think my generation use filler words for is when we run out of things to say during a conversation we say filler words to help us stall. Also we use them for people to agree with us when a point is given across as a not a good point. But it could also be laziness with generational slang and vocabulary.

M.Evbuomwan 8b
4/5/2024 11:22:24 pm

I don’t think teenagers using the words “like” e.t.c is a showcase of their intelligence it is acceptable for unprofessional settings but should not be proper for professional settings

D. Costilla 4A
4/5/2024 11:50:52 pm

I don’t believe this current generation “lacks intelligence,” but instead are just too lazy. Sometimes we run out of things to say and we use those words to get our brain going, and it has somewhat become a habit of ours. It’s not a lack of intelligence, but more of an act of laziness.

This is a place where students of all levels can freely, confidently and creatively express themselves and their opinions in a nonjudgmental platform. They are required to respond to and critique each other, but degradation, slander, lewdness, etc., will not be tolerated.
