Unfortunately, a lot of the violence and moral dilemmas we hear about on the news stem from and are influenced by the government's inability to own up to its failure to protect it's people. The answer to all of the above questions is: yes. Yes, white supremacy is on the rise. Yes, mentally ill people have way too much access to weapons. Yes, mental illness is often an overused excuse. Yes, the internet is toxic and yes, toxic masculinity is an ongoing, prevalent issue. America has failed miserably to protect the lives of people of color. We were never free, even after slavery ended. There is hardly any punishment for those who verbally harass or discriminate against people of color, so of course, the government does absolutely nothing to those who commit hate driven, racial acts of violence. The point that I am trying to make is that our government is at fault for all of the issues and moral dilemmas within our Anerican society. It allows for our lives and our freedom in every way possible.

I agree to all that was said on this comment, I do believe that the world has not only become violent but it has become something that not only attracts fear but a place where nobody wants to be apart of. Both the president and the government are at fault for not being able to really protect those that are in danger, rules aren’t set in place to punish those who do harm on thousands of people. If you look back at all these mass shootings including the most 3 recent ones of summer 19, you do not see not one person of color on those mugshots but instead you see the faces of hateful white men,& how most are said to be mentally ill. Its crazy how all these laws about banning abortion were passed & set into place ,before gun restrictions. People of color live in fear every single day, because now you can’t even go to the grocery store or a shopping center in peace because you get all these thoughts into your head about something terribly wrong happening. America has become the place where people live in fear for their lives everyday.

I agree. It’s a shame how we have fear of going out in public because of these horrible people in our world !

White supremacy is most definitely on top . The government is so quick to lock up people for crazy reasons but cant seem to keep the mental ill people away from weapons they shouldn't be able to have access too. the government doesnt take care of the country like they should be doing instead theirs shootings at Elementary schools, kids committing suicide because they dont feel like they belong mainly because of racism . But more importantly i blame the president he allows these things to happen an walk away from it like its nothing it makes no sense why any kid of color or even a hispanic kid have to fear for their lives every time it involves a white cop in a situation . we are humans not targets not animals . the government want so many hispanic an blacks to help protect the country but cant seem to take care of our people .

I disagree and Agree! The president is not putting guns to our heads and saying go shoot the school up! He is influencing it but we chose what we want to do with the gun in our hand ! We make our own choices as human beings. Also yes I agree that the government should have a better system on who can buy guns to keep the mentally ill away from them.

I definitely agree with this statement as far as white supremacy rising and it being overlooked. Furthermore, I think that people are using mentally illness as a way to get over on the white people maybe for sympathy. Also the government really doesn’t support those who are in poverty which makes those of color and hispanics turn to the street just to eat! The internet plays a big part in this well because of cyber bullying every one wants to fit in and they think it’s cool but it’s not when it results in death..

I agree, white supremacy play a huge role in recent shootings as you read their manifestos you can feel the hatred they had for minorities. They didn't even think of them as equal but as savages.

Half the time its based on how you were raised. People started making deadly shootings since teenagers started shooting up schools. Not to long ago, a man had shot up walmart & killed a certain few and it shocked alot of people. The world is making people want to shoot up places because of the privelages they have with these guns. Other time it is white supremacy but most of the time its clever irresponsible individuals with this power to get a gun, but know the purpose behind it

I agree with the statement about that certain people get certain privileges. A black person and a white person can do the same crime but the black person will get a harder sentence.

I disagree with what you said about it depends on how you where raised nothing is never set in stone you can change what ever you want in your life it just depend on your mindset or do you have the heart and dedication to change.

LJohnson
8/23/2019 10:56:44 pm

I disagree because it don’t depends on how you were raised . I feel like it depends on your mindset and what you believe. You can have the best upbringing as a child and commit a crime and life in prison. It’s not how you raised . It’s about the choice you make in life .

K Monroy 6th

I partly disagree. Your actions are based on the choices you decided to make, wether your childhood was rainbows and unicorns or if it was darkness and loneliness. The people out here shooting up public places CHOSE to do those things, not because they thought “oh my mom didn’t love me” but it was simply a choice. Those that want to be better strive to do better, some just don’t put the effort in it. I do believe on how some might think it’s okay to shoot up a place simply because they own a gun and their privileges. Nowadays a lot of people want to blame the video games that require using a gun while playing in the game, but I don’t believe that. I believe that the president is influencing both hate, violence and racism, all three factors leading to these shootings.

I agree with you to the fullest . America has failed to protect lives of colors .

Yes😣 the President who is in office now. D Trump, current white president , occasionally brings up things he has done so far that Barack Obama, our previous black president, didn’t . With that being said, it gave the white supremacist a green light to voice their opinions/emotions even more than before .

i agree to most of what was said in the insert above! I blame our system of “law” and the generation we live in. Even though People have been getting killed since the beginning of time , I feel like in these days today it’s ridiculous how bodies are dropping like flies. I believe that the mentally-ill-person-with-a-gun is definitely an excuse to save some of the whites when they do ignorant things like shooting up a school or killing a black male. The courts never has any mercy on hispanics or people of color but always lets the whites get away with it and that is unfair! White supremacy has always been here it’s just starting to show more now that every one is paying attention and also we are starting to recognize it based on what our president is showing. The internet I feel like is the BIGGEST issue! Why? Because people want to copy and do everything they see on television. With all the bling and all the drugs ! Then it leads to somebody getting jealous or angry that a person has all this stuff , gets mad and kill him/her!

I agree the law system is to blame but how we as people are going to change it? The most powerful thing in the world is mind how can we put our minds together and change the law and stop talking about it’s time for a change. We can talk all day but what can we do to change it? Talk is cheap any and everybody can do it!

Deja Carroll

I agree, sometimes we have to do it ourselves and not rely on the system to fix it for us. They have proved multiple times that they do not listen to us so why should we just accept it and move on?

Autumn Gaines

I agree! Black people are often targeted when it comes to the law! Black people are faced with different point of views, we are automatically seen as a brass minority. The government seems to deal with white peoples cases lighter, may be because of the money they have, the people they know, or morally because of the color of their skin! I agree with you 100%!

E.Tyson 1st period

The law system is not always right. As I black male I am scared to talk to the law it doesn’t matter what their skin tone maybe. Due to different events that has been going on regardless of color. Some use mental illness as a “scapegoat” why is that? There are truly those that are with mental illness that lives a normal life and function without destruction. Why do man uses this? Everyone has an opinion but do they listen to what is going on to fix it? Here we have in society people being taken away from their loves one because America enforcing a law to get rid of the people that doesn’t have legal rights here.
The internet isn’t toxic it helps for if you are using it the way it should be. People decide they post things that can offend others and have no filter and it’s ok?

Autumn Gaines
8/23/2019 10:53:36 pm

I agree, the law is not always right! An officer may pull over a black persons and direct them to turn off a car, and without a doubt they will shoot down a black man sitting in the car with kids in the backseat! Is this wrong? Is it right? Is it that the government is scared of correctly serving their country and doing their jobs? Some people should not be allowed the right to be a policeman. Black peoples deserve the same respect as whites! I can’t think of one viral internet video that had a white man being shot in his own car for moving wrong !

I feel like the government should check and see if people have mental illness before being able to purchase a gun. Mental illness is also a factor of all the mass shootings. If the government would check for that , they could see some people are mentally incapable to carry a gun. Then if the government did that we wouldn’t go through y’all that. Lastly , I feel purchasing a gun shouldn’t be easy .

Deja Carroll 1 st period

There are a lot of things that contribute to the reason why these mass shooters create such devastating tragedies, and one of the things that contribute to mass shootings is the internet. The internet contribute to the mentality of mass shooters, because of the blatant ignorance online. The internet is there for anybody to voice their views whether it is ignorant or not, but the most famous website for ignorants and all to come together is Reddit and 4Chan. Reddit and 4Chan are websites that allows users to voice their opinions and get constructive feedback from other users. Many mass shooters like the New Zealand and El Paso shooters used these sites to post their racist manifesto against specific group of minorities before creating such heinous acts. Twitter is another place that mass shooters like to post, like Jaylen Fryberg, who posted concerning tweets before taking the lives of 4 students and then himself. The parkland school shooter also posted concerning tweets on his twitter, but the difference between Fryberg is that a concerned person notified the police about it, they did not find anything. If only they had took it seriously lives would have been tragically lost. Not only do the government have to step up and make stricter laws to prevent things like this, but it is us as citizens who see concerning behavior on the internet and choose to ignore it then voice concern after the tragedy.
