Live interaction with a crowd is a cathartic, spiritual kind of exchange, and it's intensified at a festival. ~Trent Reznor

You're settling into your tiny coach seat on your next trip, and the person next to you starts coughing. In the past, you might have grumbled about him flying with a cold. But now travelers may want to know: Does your seatmate have Ebola? It's hard not to worry.

A man in Dallas is suffering from the Ebola virus. Given that he has been in contact with up to 100 people, and the questionable information being disseminated from the government and media, how do you think public fear from this point forward might affect social interaction?

Respond in no more than five sentences and no less than three. You must also reply to a classmate's post. You cannot post identical comments on different classmates' posts. You will not get credit for shallow comments such as "I agree" or "I disagree." Make sure your posts address the reply that you are responding to.

Be sure to--
  • Be clear about your position
  • Provide brief, but specific support for your argument
  • Provide meaningful content, instead of fluff, obvious responses
  • Write EPIC Content (Engaging, Powerful, Informative, Creative)

CAUTION!! Do NOT embarrass me, yourself, your class, the English department, the school or your parents with tasteless, meaningless comments. This is for a grade.

This will will have a dangerous affect on social interaction because, people will be more or over-protective of who they associate with. Also people would really stop interacting with other people. So with the world knowing that this deadly disease is out in the world it will become an major affect on social interaction.

I agree, especially since whenever people hear about something that's potentially fatal, they start freaking out without reason.

Tiara jackson

I agree , as soon as people started to hear about the Ebola virus they started freaking out. Most people made jokes about it now knowing the serious the situation is. Ebola isn't the first fatal virus around.

hannah julius

i agree. people do not want to get a fatal disease, so they will do whatever is necessary to prevent that.

I totally agree with you Isaiah, I also believe that with this disease going around we will be very careful with who we associate with.

Jamarie Williams p5

I agree with Byrd, the virus is deadly. But people interact all the time with people who may sneeze or cough on them

Alex Bennett
10/9/2014 08:19:56 am

I think this will have a rather large effect on social interaction because people get incredibly scared when they hear of something that's potentially fatal. And they will do this without reason, because you never know who could have it.

isaiah manning
10/9/2014 12:32:43 pm

I agree with you because people will now become so aware of there surroundings and who the associate with. Also they do it without reason thats there reaction when they here of an disease like this one. That is why i stand with your opinion which is what you believe.

As I mentioned in my post I can also say that public fear has always existed but it takes an event like this to show off its true potential.

hannah julius
10/9/2014 08:55:05 am

i think that this will affect public interaction in a negative way. People will not want to be around others because they think they will catch the virus.

DeMarcus Byrd 2nd period

With this ebola virus going around I think people are afraid for their own health, so you will not be seeing many people interacting out in public especially if the person starts coughing. I mean it makes sense because this virus can be easily spread. so yes I think that public fear is going to effect social interaction.

Hector Castillo
10/9/2014 01:40:08 pm

DeMarcus makes a point. Would you want to confront people who you have no idea that have the virus and vice versa? The public's fear would go to a state where social interaction well be all brought to a chat box in social media.

I agree with everyone to a certain degree this country can't function unless people are working as many people who fill they should stay inside is the same amount maybe even more that are going to work outside

Ariana Hughes-Crockett

I agree there will be less communication and people would not interact with people they don't know. When people hear about diseases and things they freak out and start changing how they use to be so they don't catch for as touching, kissing or sneezing.

Hector Castillo
10/9/2014 01:36:33 pm

The public fear would drive them into not having interaction with anyone since Ebola seems to quickly be transfer by confrontation and the symptoms are the same as the flu. Knowing that people can be very cautious and decide to interact using social media. In other cases, some people aren't afraid of the virus and still decide to interact with people. In any case, people should fear the virus and should probably use social media to it's fullest.

i agree , people are fearful of catching ebola so they will do anything not to catch it

Christian Forehand
10/10/2014 11:44:37 am

I agree with Hector, some people will stay inside their homes cause of this disease and some will still go out because they are not afraid of it. But we still should interact in a way like social media that way we're all safe and good.

i think public interaction will be decreased. people dont wanna be around others not knowing what they have. things such as talking touching would be cut to an minimum. which leaves social interaction with other people to not happen as much as it would without the disease going around

Victoria Miller
10/9/2014 05:04:54 pm

Society doesn't really know how the viruse is being spread because the government is sayin that its not airborne, and can only be transmitted through blood, saliva, or any other bodily fluids. A man contacted the disease from being on an airplane so that contradicts the government. Now no one wants to interact in public or come outside because they're afraid they might catch the disease.

Victoria Miller
10/9/2014 05:08:15 pm

I agree with Demarcus. Someone coughs in class and you look at them crazy because you don't know what they have and ebola isn't jus gone pop up and say hi, it's going to sneak up on you and you may die. Everyone is scared for their lives and no one knows the outcome.

Taylor DIlworth

I Agree with Victoria because i do the same thing when some coughs around me ebola is out there and i dont want it

Jonathon Johnson

The media have people believing anything. If somebody cough don't mean they're sick. Whatever the media say is what people believe or is what everyone has.

I Strongly feel that the social interaction is being affected rapidly because more of the people in the world are hearing about the Ebola virus . This virus is a big eye opener to most of the world every one is worried about if they appear to have the symptoms and if anyone around them has them . I feel as though this virus is going to make people isolate themselves at home more of the time than having a life . So yes Ebola is the fear of the world today and is affecting the social interaction .

Derrica Anderson

I agree with Ms. Thompson because the Ebola virus has brought a great amount of fear in people today. With the fear of getting the virus, people will want to do anything possible not to get it, even if it's isolation.

I agree with Ms.Anderson.. it's a life and death situation. Anything and everything goes when trying to stay safe .

I feel as tho, some people may not know, that the person they associate with might not know weather they are sick or not. I could sneeze on my mother not knowing that I have Ebola or not

Keylan Grayson 4th

I agree that people will be more conservative and watch there surroundings, with a fatal sickness going around. This can cause
less interactions, communications, and more panic

Christian Forehand
10/10/2014 10:43:35 am

I fill as so people will start walking more off to the side of the street or hallway your in,because of there coughing and things. Some people start acting more antisocial and not hanging out with friends in populated areas cause of this ebola. Mostly they would probably not go to work or school also cause of the virus going around, and they might not know if their coworkers might have it or not.

Maryann Amoloja
10/10/2014 01:11:31 pm

For that reason, with the ebola virus circulating around it could cause a social gap.which coild cause a decrease in communication, interaction, and bring forth chaos.with that in mind, This outbreak could destroy the world's social standings.

Derrica Anderson
10/10/2014 02:10:24 pm

Public fear might affect social interaction in a way that makes an individual more cautious of their surroundings. This fright may also decrease social interaction.

dominique hemphill
10/10/2014 04:11:25 pm

People are going to begin to hide in the safety of their homes in order to feel safe and uninfected.

Maria Hurtado 2nd
10/10/2014 04:16:08 pm

Social interaction, I believe, will have an important decrease in the surrounding area. The public has every right to take as much precaution as they desire due to all the "information" presented by the government as well as the media. Public fear has always existed but it will only show when something substantial hits close to home.
