Pigs are just meat. Pigs are just animals that deserve to be cooked. PIgs deserve to be hunted and killed.

I agree with you. Many people eat pigs and do enjoy it, although I don't think they deserve to be hunted and killed. Yet again humans and possibly other animals eat pigs in order to survive.

I disagree with your statement, because pigs being filthy has nothing to do with cooking them. People clean the meat in order to eat it, thats why we have things to clean the meat with.

Amalio 3A
12/9/2022 12:30:35 pm

I agree with pigs being filthy, but the pigs once killed, they are washed and sanitized before being sent to a meat market because they can't be send any bad meat or dirty meat due to the FDA food law. Meaning there are no problems of being cooked.

Kevin Jacinto 6B

there are many things to eat other than meat. How do you think vegans survive.

Janelle Melgar 6B link
12/6/2022 11:50:35 am

I do agree with you. There are many other animals people could eat like chicken or cows, but then again they could be talking about not eating all animals in general. If that was the case then why just show pigs ? Some people need their protein such as pigs in order to eat good and survive.

J. Castillo 3A
12/8/2022 01:45:31 pm

Yes, there are many foods people can eat other than animals, but not all food have the same protein a human needs which is why we eat more than one things to get the proteins we need, either by animals or fruits or other foods.

R. Waits 7B
12/6/2022 12:31:51 pm

While I do see eye to eye, one small art piece isn't going to change what we kill and eat. Other people become vegan for this sole reason. Many won't switch from their preferred meal, but I do think this was an okay warning.

Keyuante Sheffield

I said that same thing we are harming these animals and they have lifes too

this would be favorite comment because constantly eating pigs and other animals is really hurting our economy pigs, cows and chickens are the number one animals that they are costly be eaten but me , myself and I am not a vegan, but I would completely go vegan to save the animals

Melissa Contreras 6B
12/8/2022 10:02:40 pm

I completely understand where you would get that from. In the image it shows words such as pork chop and sandwiches. They choose to portray it that way to get us to not eat pigs.

Khamari Caldwell
12/6/2022 11:21:02 am

From what I see I think that he must like pigs and pork chops. He has a drawing of a pig and that is probably his favorite type of meat. Lastly I want to know what this picture actually represents.

R. Waits 7B
12/6/2022 12:27:08 pm

Absolutely, the artist must like pork so much that they draw them. What if the artist is vegan and they made this piece to warn others the dangers of what meat sellers really do to pigs?

C. Torres 1A
12/7/2022 10:12:22 am

I agree that pig is definitely the artist favorite type of meat.

eduardo
12/7/2022 10:28:48 am

i too thought of the same idea you did. The artist really loves pork but the drawing i feel as if is displaying another idea.

beatriz zumaya 1a
12/7/2022 10:53:30 am

I agree i would also like to know the true meaning behind this photo It is a very exaggerated photo that looks like it was written/ drawn with resentment.

Bralin W 6B
12/6/2022 11:53:19 am

The first thing I thought whenever I laid my eyes on this painting was that I thought it was some devil worshiping type of thing. But as I tried to look deeper into the picture I assumed that this painting addresses the slaughter of pigs or how people eat pork. I also assumed that the creator wants to stop the unethical killing of these animals.

X McDonald 7B
12/8/2022 01:15:09 pm

I don't know where you got devil worship from but I definitely agree that they don't want to stop killing pigs.

I think the painting addresses pig slaughter too and I think he doesn't like pigs getting killed by people.

Janelle Melgar 6B link
12/6/2022 11:53:20 am

To me this image represents how we need to stop eating pigs. They have a pig drawn and around the pig you can see the names of food we make with the pig. The picture is overall overwhelming because of the bunches of words overlapping and basically looking messy.

Bralin W 6B

I stated the same that he was against people who ate meat, and he was trying to persuade people not to eat me with his art. Yes, I noticed the meals we eat on a daily that has pig, but I want to know why only pig? The art is very chaotic and dramatic.

K Stern 5B

I agree, the image is unsettling in my eyes. The creator definitely was against eating pig.

R. Waits 7B
12/6/2022 12:24:11 pm

I feel as if the piece of art brought to my attention is a shop. They are trying to get people's attention to buy their pigs and pork chops. Or, it could be a warning, displaying what happens to them.

A. Hernandez 5B
12/8/2022 10:32:21 am

I agree, they are trying to convey people that pigs are okay to eat and can be used as a food source.

Mkaya Banks
12/6/2022 02:19:03 pm

My first thought when seeing this pictures was what the hell am I looking at then looking closer into it. I see something that looked like a donkey trying to read the words I saw the words " big pig stands" so I'm hoping that it's a pig I don't understand the point of the picture. Maybe the artist may has a thing against eating pork and there are some religious that don't believe in eating pork so this picture can mean a lot of different thing. but I think you have to ask the artist himself to get a better understanding.

Alexia Ruiz 1A
12/8/2022 03:28:16 pm

I agree, i feel like art is usually up for interpretation but only the artist themselves can tell you a direct meaning or what they were feeling while making it.

K Stern 5B
12/9/2022 11:22:49 am

I agree, exactly my thoughts at first, and to be honest I still don't get this image

C Valdez 3A
12/9/2022 12:53:20 pm

Yeah I think he has a thing against eating pork because of the crosses in the painting. It's hard to tell exactly what it means but my best guess is that it's about pigs not meant to be eaten.

Leonardo
12/6/2022 02:41:10 pm

What really catches my attention is not only the pig, but also the writing, pork chops mostly. I feel like this is a protest, to stop animal abuse and protect pigs, and possibly other animals. All the writing seen here makes me see a sort of disturbing imagery of pigs being slaughtered. I'm not really sure how to feel either, this may appeal to vegans, in which I am not.

P Pina 7B
12/9/2022 06:30:15 pm

I agree we should start helping and protecting the pigs instead of killing them.

F. Maltos 3A
12/9/2022 11:34:19 pm

This painting is kinda creepy

Zariya B. 1A
12/7/2022 08:57:22 am

This painting to me shows how Christianity forbids eating pigs, and literally any other animal with wooden hooves. It is disgusting, and horrific. We humans idolize eating these animals, when in reality they cause a lot of problems for us at the end of the day.

C. Torres 1A

I do agree that it shows Christianity does not allow to eat pigs.

J ballard 1a

The picture is abstract that describes a certain religion called being christian. The picture has things that the bible is against like eating pork meat. Then it has the word prositution in the image that bible is also against in the bible it states you should wait until marriage.

F.G

i agree with this because it does have like some symbols you cant really read

C. Torres 1A
12/7/2022 10:10:20 am

The image above means to me that the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat has two loves pigs and Christianity. First is pigs this shows by the drawing of the pig and the words saying "pork-chops" and "big pig sandwiches". He is clearly expressing how much he loves eating pigs. However he is also christian and in the religion they forbid eating pigs so he is having a battle with himself over both those things.

12/8/2022 01:37:45 pm

When I first saw this image I didn't understand what I was looking at or what the image was meaning, I looked closer and saw some words like
"Big Pig","Pork-chops","people fed lions" and some other words I can't understand which made me think that the drawing was about a pig, maybe trying to say how us people kill and hunt pigs to eat them. I don't know what to say of this if it's right or wrong because nowadays people will eat anything and eating a pig isn't something new that people do.

Alexia Ruiz 1A
12/8/2022 03:23:01 pm

At first glance I would think that the artist is maybe depressed or angry. After reading about his life i think maybe the art is showing chaos or inner turmoil. It has really random words and is messy, maybe that's how he was feeling when he made it.

R Aponte 2A link
12/8/2022 10:53:33 pm

Pigs are filthy animals, and majority of the time their living conditions are extremely unsanitary. like they say you are what you eat, and pigs are animals that carry many diseases that can be emotionally and physically passed on to the consumers.

I disagree they clean and factor the meat before sending it out to be eaten.

R. Lynch 3A

Pigs are filthy animals, but there are precautions that are taken before animals like pigs are taken and turned into food. Also, most of the bacteria that some how manages to survive processing are all killed when the pig is cooked correctly.

Although I see what you're saying, I don't agree with you. Animals are meant to be eaten by other animals. It's a part of life.

I agree people need to killing such animals like pigs because it might not be good in our diet.

I do not know exactly what the painting describes but by the looks of it i just see the paiting as the artist trying to potray not to eat pigs and a very all over the place painting.

Pigs are disgusting creatures that hold many diseases, they are hunted on a regular basis for our sake to eat which is for a slightly good reason. Pork is a good meat and many people eat it on a regular this art represents the slaughter of the pigs the things their used for which is sad.

Gabriel Castaneda 2A
12/9/2022 11:50:26 pm

I disagree with this because I think this is about protests and people defending animals. Not about how they should be hunted and killed. Animals do a lot of stuff for the world and deserve to be saved, I still want my bacon though :)

i see alot of just writing ontop of more writing and like some religious stuff on it,

The first thing i thought of when i seen this picture was that who painted this is against eating pigs. I thought this because there was like marks all over all the dishes people eat with pig in it. But i think that a lot of people don't know they eat pig because it's in a lot of dishes now days so it's hard to go against it.

to me it feels demonic because of the way the pig look.even tho it has pork chop right there.another things is it feels like they have a problem with eating pigs and it going again their religion

Desiree ware 3A
12/9/2022 11:44:15 pm

I agree, when I looked at that painting, I felt terrified like that pig looks like a monster. You do have a point though because there are some religions that don't eat pork and this painting could've also been promoting veganism.

i feel like this is something like a protest to eating meat like cows and how we kill then sale the meat for consumption

When I look at this picture, it gives off demonic vibes. Why woud you draw a pig with like teeth, human teeth at that.

The picture / art gives me brainstorming , I think the author was thinking about how pigs have to be killed , and their trying to process it , but hates it .

I agree with you, looking at how messy the words are in this painting does give me brainstorming

This picture of the pig feels demonic to me cause of the way it looks. I feel like the person who drew this is very much upset with whats going on with pigs. Also, I can tell from the writings that their upset at the fact that people are eating them cause its shows writings on the dishes.

Amalio Garcia 3A
12/9/2022 12:38:33 pm

I agree with this person, the person who drew this picture is so upset they see the people who kills or eats pig as demons or devils.

Gabriel Castaneda 2A
12/9/2022 11:30:13 pm

I think he is right because people might've been protesting over animal slaughter. People get upset over a lot of things but animals can really get to someone and they can get killed all for a dish.

Gabriel Castaneda 2A
12/9/2022 11:00:19 am

The first thing that comes to my mind when I see this photo is slaughter. Even though I am not vegan ( I will gladly eat some meat) it is sad to see animals die and be cooked for us. I think that some people were doing some type of graffiti for a pig and people had started putting what they could cook with it.

Makes me feel concerned. The image looks very chaotic, maybe it's trying to tell us pigs aren't good for our bodies. Pigs aren't clean animals to begin with, so it's definitely not good we're eating them.

G. Calderon Batista 2A
12/9/2022 09:04:37 pm

I agree with this statement, if you do research pigs are actually nasty animals and not good for your body.

jeremiah blackmon 2A

i think food can definitely play a big part in our bodies, like how we consume pigs we might also consume the way they act and feel.

i think eating pigs is a normal too eat nothing wrong with it

Amalio Garcia 3A
12/9/2022 12:35:10 pm

I seen and ate pig meat and it's not a bad thing, many people breed to sell them and be used as meat but others grow them just to take care of them as pets, the way they are used is split but mostly are used as meat. They have been in the market for a long time and they wont be out of meat for a long time, so no reason to cry about this.

R. Lynch 3A
12/9/2022 12:43:22 pm

This image conveys emotions of confusion and chaos. The messy, and clustered design of this piece reinforces my former statement. I believe that this artwork questions the morality of eating other animals. Each little scribble are excuses (of why we should/shouldn't eat animals) that constantly tries to overlap one another.

Mackenly Mitchell link
12/9/2022 06:28:16 pm

Nicely said. The crosses and the pig , brightly printed on the piece, made me wonder if he had religious moralities himself.

G. Calderon Batista 2A
12/9/2022 09:07:17 pm

I agree with this statement, and i loved the way you worded. I liked my the way that you looked at this as more of an art piece and not just about eating pigs

C Valdez 3A
12/9/2022 12:44:52 pm

I think it's about eating pigs being wrong and that we shouldn't do it because the drawing is pig themed with crosses on the drawing probably supposed to be Christianity. The drawing seems chaotic to me so whatever it's trying to say is probably negative so that's why eating pigs is bad. I think the artist was mad or upset when he drew this too because of the drawing being chaotic.

Mackenly Mitchell link
12/9/2022 06:25:49 pm

Yea, that's what I thought as well. He drew everything so sharp and messy. My question is why does he make everything so difficult to actually read?

S Griffin 3A link
12/9/2022 02:09:01 pm

I think that this image indicates that we should stop eating pigs because they are not meant to be killed. Pigs aren't clean animals to begin with, because they usually are in mud so it's definitely not good to be eating them at all. Chicken is a good meat and many people eat it on a regular basis, but this art represents the slaughter of pigs it is sad. The picture is overwhelming because of the words that are overlapping and basically looking messy.

M. Espino 7B
12/9/2022 11:04:36 pm

I completely agree with you, the words in the picture show the different words people use to describe pigs or even other animals.

jeremiah blackmon 2A
12/9/2022 11:33:44 pm

Like how the words are messy i think it resembles the pigs and how there always messy.

Mackenly Mitchell link
12/9/2022 06:22:20 pm

The painting is very chaotic and a little random, but considering Basquiats' art style, i'm sure it was all intentional. it all appears kind of aggressive and messy, so maybe the message he's trying to get across is something urgent. One element of this painting that really caught my attention were the crosses, which seem to be drawn in a more bold shade and from that I can only assume this has something to do with religion.

Paola Pina 7B

I think the imagine shows us what we use pigs for, “pork chops”, “ big pig sandwiches”, and “Feed lion”.Pigs aren’t meant to be slaughtered and killed and even mistreated. People kill multiple animals for us to eat them. They died for us to be able to eat. This is why there are religions that are against eating pork or meat because the animals suffer.

Riana Thomas 5B
12/9/2022 10:09:02 pm

I agree with you because pigs are innocent animals and shouldn't be killed. Some people don't eat pork. Personally I really don't eat pork but I do love bacon.

M. Espino 7B

I agree, these are innocent animals we are killing.

F. Maltos 3A
12/9/2022 11:22:16 pm

I agree with you because it does show what we use pigs for and that is not right to kill them just to eat them because we are harming them and they do not deserve to be treated like that.

I agree, today in society and even all around the world we don't see pigs as animals anymore we look at them as slaughter and something we can eat as food.

G. Calderon Batista 2A
12/9/2022 09:11:35 pm

I feel like this art is somewhat controversial and people have their many viewpoints about this. I’m on the fence about if you should eat animals or not. I know for a fact that pigs are dirty animals though and they live in filth. There was this one time my mom showed me this video of a pig and someone poured soda on it and a bunch of maggots came out of it. That’s something i wouldn’t like to eat but i also think we should take better care of our animals because they do a lot for us and our environment.

Morgan Johnson 5B
12/9/2022 10:47:55 pm

I agree, our animals are more than just for survival. They are important for the universe and our Earth. They do many things to help maintain the world along side us.

Riana Thomas 5B
12/9/2022 10:07:01 pm

I believe this picture is telling people not to eat pork. I say this because the artist drew a pig and wrote pork chops. Maybe he is allergic to them or a vegetarian or he is apart of a religion that is not aloud to eat pork. The artist maybe trying to explain to people what pork can do to you and he seems very angry about it.

Morgan Johnson 5B
12/9/2022 10:45:59 pm

I think the mural or picture is about how some of us treat pigs. We treat them as beings that are just for survival and picking off of. They are used for food, live stock, clothes, and more.

M. Espino 7B
12/9/2022 10:50:00 pm

This painting symbolizes madness in life. As I was looking at the words in the background picture, I realized some of the words were significant to life and some had no significance at all. It demonstrates that we should prioritize the more important events in our life.

Kevin Jacinto 6B
12/9/2022 10:58:32 pm

I feel as if the painter wants to express his feeling of how we are killing the pigs in order to make all these tasty dishes. In my opinion I see nothing wrong with the killing of animals to eat they reproduce fast the nothing is really being affected. I feel like he is expressing his rage and thoughts by giving off like a mean or aggressive feeling from looking at the painting.

Fanny Maltos 3A
12/9/2022 11:06:13 pm

My thoughts about the pictures is that its trying to tell us something about pigs, maybe for us to stop killing and harming the pigs and to stop eating them. The picture has words like "Pork-chops" and "pig" showing what we to after killing the pigs.

jeremiah blackmon 2A
12/9/2022 11:29:57 pm

I feel like this painting is expressing is a sin to eat pigs.Pigs are looked at as unclean.and filthy.I feel eating pigs is bad for our bodys but alot of people ignore it.

Desiree Ware 3A
12/9/2022 11:39:41 pm

In all honesty this painting makes me feel terrified. Simply because of all the graffiti. The best conclusion I can come up with based off the painting it has to do with the subject of veganism. I see a pig and quotes that say, "big pig sandwiches" and "porkchops." I think the message behind this painting is him showing us how society see's pigs as which is slaughter because majority of people typical daily breakfast includes bacon.

D Burris 5B
12/9/2022 11:49:46 pm

Looking at this painting at first I really didn’t understand what i looking at because how chaotic it looks but after looking at it some more I feel that this painting is indicating that people should stop killing and eating pigs. My reason for that indication is because of how the painting is presented and the words on that painting like “Porkchops” and “Big pig sandwiches” and how all the words are like messy and overlapping and it kinda gives off a aggressive look.
