Let's Help Charllie

1/31/2019

Picture
Ariana "Charlie" Dewberry was an IB student at Lancaster High School. She graduated in 2017. I taught her English and TOK. She was a brilliant student. Bubbly, helpful, intelligent, academic and an awesome reader!

At the time of this writing, Charlie is classified as a sophomore at Sam Houston State University. She has maintained all A’s and B’s since enrollment, and accomplished her goal of being on the Dean’s list! She was excelling!

Then, life happened and it all changed.

Late in October, what doctors thought was a viral infection, and later, muscle pain and a UTI, turned out to be a rare illness that has caused Charlie to need around the clock care.

Just barely in her 20s, a once vibrant young girl who was living life, carving out her future and enjoying college was now back at home, wheelchair bound, unable to see or even bathe herself. She spent her birthday in December wondering, "why me?" To date, doctors still do not know what is wrong with Charlie.

But as it is her way, giving up is not an option for Charlie. Although she is able to walk again (sans walker), she still cannot see. Nevertheless, through it all, her mother has not left her daughter’s side. Like her daughter's, her mother's life was drastically changed. At one point, she had to feed and bathe her daughter all over again.

Although her job is protected by FMLA, her medical leave is without pay. While we do not know why nor how Charlie was struck with this mysterious illness, we do know that we can be there to support her mother with financial and food donations.

If you are willing and can, do something to help Charlie! Click her to visit her GoFundMe page and help give her family peace and light. 'Ase!

Charlie's situation reminds me of Helen Keller. Both of their lives were heavily impacted when they were diagnosed with an undocumented illness. Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf, defied all odds and went on to achieve great things. I believe that Charlie has it in her to take her situation and turn it around. I don't know Charlie personally but with what I've been told, it seems that she doesn't let much hold her back for too long.

Helen Keller was strong and with the support Charlie has she can accomplish great things like Helen Keller. Charlie’s going to flip the situation and do something great.

Charlie does remind me of Charllie. Going against all odds and showing everyone that anything is possible, whether you're blind and/or deaf. When life throws something at you, its up to you to either let it beat you down or fighting back and conquering whatever is in your way of achievement.

Charlie is a strong girl and will make it out. Don’t let this all of a sudden incident stop you from you goals. Life will sometimes put obstacles in your way so you can give up. Go at them head on. You will feel more accomplished in the end because you know it wasn’t easy getting there.

With all honesty, this is a sad event that should have never happened to someone so young. It breaks my heart to know the parents of Ariana have to do the duties Ariana was suppose to do for them, when they got older and couldn’t do anything for themselves. To be honest, it is disheartening that bad things always happen to such good people. It makes me wonder, do good people, who go through such predicaments, influence others around them to change their behavior, as a wake up call. If I was an evil person, her situation would wake me immediately!

M. Hollywood 2nd

I believe that she will use what has happened to her to help others. I can see her being a keynote speak in the future speaking about her problems and how she continued to fight. I think that will wake people up and help them realize that some of the things they are doing is wrong.

In one’s belief, this too shall pass because she is a fighter, and has accomplish so much that as I am believing for her she will get through this to be a bigger impact on us and community. This is helping me already. Eating right, staying healthy with excercise, and making sure I get medical care even when it seems minor; but after so many days of no improvement to follow up sooner than later as we have a tendency to get busy in life.

Well I Chancellor, it appears to me that life just happens. Things happens to good and bad people. This is seen to be a bad thing done to Charlie because of perception, but at the same time she presents to be a fighter in it all. It is such a blessing to have her mother to take care of her as some do not have a mother nor a father to help them with simple things in life such as simply loving them. This is a tough one and I wouldn’t wish it for no one, but as humans we must strive to stay healthy and promote fitness for wellness in an attempt to prevent ailments.

It’s tragic how suddenly something can take over your body and change your life forever. Her parents are burdened by not knowing if she will wake the next day. They don’t even know for sure what’s wrong with their daughter. However, based on the information I’ve been provided with Charlie is a fighter. I share the same sentiment. I think not knowing what the problem, and thus, not knowing how to treat her condition makes the situation far more difficult, which is why i think all the support she's receiving is so important. I have faith that Charlie will live through her illness and receive the help she needs to be healthy, but it seems so dismal to think that her parents feel unable to care for her. Any person who is considerate of another, especially their child, would feel powerless and helpless when dealing with an issue of this caliber. I truly hope her parents find a way to help her and she can pay for her healthcare. She deserves a chance at survival, especially as a brilliant young mind.

Something like this should not have happened to Charllie, but life has a way of throwing obstacles at you that you just cannot pass. Given that she is blind, she does not know the words "give up." She has fought her way through a huge trial in her life and she is still going and that inspires me and hopefully other people that anything is possible.

I read the gofundme and let’s help Charlie story, it was a reality or as some may say an eye opener. Some go about life striving thinking all is well when no one knows the days or the hour of life’s changing crisis or death or new leaf on life such as winning the lottery or gaining millions. This is unfortunate for Charlie and she’s a beautiful young lady. Her story as it appears saddening is such a light of reality in that this could happen to anyone. From listening to my Aunt whose a nurse, viral infection even bacteria infections can come our teeth, feet, stomach, etc that can lead to serious health issues as well. Charlie had a viral infection and last year I remember there was a school teacher who had the fl, but died because she opted not to promptly purchase the prescribed medications to treat the germ for healing to use the money to buy groceries for her children instead. As humans we eat certain food and drink particular drinks putting chemicals and substances in our bodies that we must be mindful of how our bodies are affected. I say this because people even get high blood pressure and diabetes, although heredity they’re brought on by a person’s sedentary lifestyle choices. We must try to take care of ourselves and seek proper medical treatment soon being cognizant of our actions, choices, and resources. I really hate this has happened to Charlie with noting her perseverance and strive. In my belief, I’m praying a miracle with a testimony that would promote others come out of this for her, her mother, and loved ones. If I was financially able, I’d love to donate because in life I’ve noticed some people do not have health, life, or long term insurance or have saved money that would help pay for support in similar circumstances including my family. Life choices matters.

It is so unfortunate how drastically her life changed. It brings me sorrow to great that such an amazing person has been harmed so badly by natural causes. It’s terrifying to think that life can change so much in a matter of seconds. I commend miss Dewberry for not giving up. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for her and her love ones.
