The image depicted reminds me of a quote that says “Find out what is real gold and not gold plated”. The image shows him covering up what’s really there to be something that’s considered better or more valuable. Just because something is viewed as better that doesn’t mean you have to change what’s really there because being true to yourself is so much more comforting. The information in the text shows that society is becoming more aware about the problems in America. It’s becoming important to everyone and not just one race. Even though the comparisons are made to blacks those same comparisons can be made from the other minorities as well. I think awareness will continue to grow and changes will continue to be made, and eventually we will truly all be equal.

Being true to one’s self is an important key factor in life and deceiving yourself with glitter n what seem to not be you.. isnt a good route to be on but i too believe that awareness is being to grow with the problems n today’s world and one day hopefully you will truly all be equal.. ya never know

The reason I agree with you is because being true to yourself if very important and growing awareness is also important but I just hope that many people (no just the blacks) will not only see the awareness but act on it and start having a mind to actually change what is holding people captive in general.

Reading the 5 fact article and referring myself back to the picture.. it’s show that the young man in the photo is painting black chains.. gold..
gold representing the better of things
in the article it says that whites benefit from advantages that black do not have and the chains being the advantages that a young black male has.. just simply a black african american has differing from advantages a white person has... he’s turning it into something more fit to what he believes he can achieve or what should be an order or what he wants to be seen as.. what opportunities that is held back from him may look like from the outside looking in

The action of the man painting his chains gold reveals that as much as blacks try to free themselves from the shackles that we were placed in, we are unable to because we have the wrong tools or maybe cause we are putting ourselves in an allusion of success. However, I do believe the gold chains symbolizes our freedom and liberation in America as we are constantly putting in the effort to change for the good in many ways as possible.

I think to disagree because another interpretation I got from this image was a slave and that transition of the slave becoming a rapper one of the biggest slaves in America. The picture shows that as much as African Americans try to better themselves, they will still remained chained to their chackles. The only thing different is that they’re higher quality. It’s not new knowledge that we are far from completely overcoming this constant pattern of being put down but so far we have come a long way for a better future. It is true that we all have not had the same opportunities as our white counterparts and we have not been treated the same but that hasn’t stopped some of us from breaking the glass ceiling. In retrospect we recognize all these negative things however we have now been getting closer in closing the gaps.

With all honesty, the picture is showing someone who is in chains, who is painting it gold. To be honest, this means that the slave is thinking that its current life is good and honorable. The article is saying a lot of positive things happening for the black community, showing our progress in America. However, if you tie the article to the picture, it is saying that we are making our lives seem good, even though its not. The image shows a black man covering his chains, comparing to the chains that blacks was unwillingly force to endure from slavery. The chains represent the suppressed problems and freedoms that blacks are given in this world, The articles described the hardship that blacks are still having to face today. The articles reveal that even though slavery is over we're still held down by either financial, race, mental, or even spiritual chains. We have to come into realization that even though those African American rappers or singers may seem to have it all, remember everything that glitters ain't gold.

After reading the article and the picture ,it gives me a vibe of confidence within things. Black people have always been thrown under the bus ,and having to work harder for things due to racial issues. During segregation our race was even taught to not complain, but love the things you're in. It's almost like skin, you may not like something about yourself but making it pretty or accepting it makes you feel better. The lower class black families and the lower class white families wealth gap has decreased which is great . In the picture i see a man covering up his shackles with gold paint in the sense of “progression” within the black community but there are still issues they have to deal with . The black community is rising and thriving . It’s just a shame that they have to work twice as hard just to get to the same place as the white community.

The picture and the painting of chains remains me of when “ your heart is like a broken plate once u break it sorry cant fix it” . People seem to forget no matter how far we get into the future we will still be tied into the pass. This image and article shows its hard to break away from what was formed before you. Although our chains are different, black people are still in shackles in America. It’s shown by how the man is painting them gold, which makes it look better physically, but doesn’t change the oppressive system. From the article, I can see that life for black people in America is becoming slightly better over time, though the picture tells me that there are still disadvantages that hold us back from reaching our full potential. For instance, the money that a black person may earn compared to a white person is significantly different, as mentioned in the article. Personally, I think that black people will slowly reach a better place in America, but until the future generations come to be, there will always be something that makes us take two steps back from progress. After so many years of oppression, there’s still so much more to unpack rather than sweep under the rug.

What I got from the reading the article is that year after year we are getting closer to being as equal and as privileged as middle and even upper class white peoples. Even though there some time to go, it’s still getting done. After looking at the video I felt almost totally different. Opposite really. Even though we have came a long way we still aren’t aren’t considered free. We are constantly belittled and told we aren’t good enough based how much money we have and where we stay. The fact that they ate being painted gold shows that even through times of disability and inequality. blacks were still able to make the best with what they had. This imagine is a burden though it's nothing to hide from nor the past. I find the chains illustrates a struck man endevouring to reach the top. Referred to unfair "slave of mentality" fighting the incapability to seek for more. Black Americans are still restrained from having status or to open opportunities, but norms have recorded progresses beyond decade. For me the picture depicts something being hidden from one self. Although he knows the chains are there hes trynna cover them up with “gold”. All 5 points mention in the picture link all show the uprise of African American people over the past years. Americans have finally woke up and realized that we can achieve things that other races could. This is depicted in the photo by the gold covering up the rust on the chains. But was this a way of just keeping us in there control again? Does this make us look helpless and stupid again? The image to me means that for black peoples no matter how far we get in life we are still being held down by the past. Although the man in the image is painting the chains black they are still there. Meaning that although black people as a whole have come very far despite our circumstances their are still many things holding us back. Just like in the article it was pointed out that white people benefit from advantages in society that black people don’t have or experience. The article discusses the progress the black population has been able to achieve in terms of economy and education. The image is a black man who is tethered by chains and colors them golden. I conclude that the image relates to the article because it introduces the concepts that the black population is improving and using the elements that hinder them to their advantage. For example, black people have the odds stacked against them and proceeded to change them by creating a better future for upcoming generations. Like black students who struggled to pay for school have now started foundations that give scholarships to other future black students.

In analyzing the image, I see a black race male chained, but regardless of chains he see a different outcome potentially since he’s presenting gold color. Gold is meant to be of quality so, in this image it appears the young male of black race expect more regardless what was previous a state of being. The article compared to the image correlate African Americans have been a part of chained positions, but even then do not have to stay as such noting slaved. African Americans do not have to stay slaved in mind. Blacks can have wealth but due to past states, although changes one has to keep pushing or seeing different to achieve more as pit to the rest of an Caucasian race. So, chains show locked up and gold shows one’s hope in change. I see how slavery, race, and being kept down plays a part from the image to the article.

The article expresses how a man is held back from moving forward in life. He changes the color from silver to gold to show that he may feel the need or want to change who he is for more opportunies. Even though the article also states that blacks are still making lees than whites, they’ve been slowly closing the gaps. On the other hand, the painting shows a black man painting his chains gold.
