I believe that as a nation as a whole we could find a way to contain the decease but it will kill a lot of people before we are able to do that. I think that the main issue with bio terrorism is that it can spread really quickly and no one would see it coming. I still think there is a way for us to combat a bio-attack but a huge part of population would have fallen or died off due to how quickly it can spread. For example, usually if a wide spreading disease is going around it is usually quarantined and maybe completely taken care of. For a disaster as much 30 million people dying i can foresee that happening, as a bio-terrorist attack can kill so many people in a short period of time and can be noticed for months until it starts spreading into other countries. This event could effect the entire world because it can cause states, countries, and continents to go on high alert and safety precautions would go on a all time high. The use of a bio- weapon by a bio-terrorist is very dangerous and could potentially wipe out an entire species, but things like this can be dealt with with the right amount of precautions to the stop the spread of the disease or a antidote to the illness. There could be a widespread quarantine zone that will be the last defense of the human race, which could buy us enough time to make a cure and combat the outbreak.

I agree with your overall response. Bio-terrorism has many risks associated with it and can always backfire. There are some precautions that could be taken but none are 100% fool-proof.

I have to agree with you because bioterrorism cannot be stopped, or we cannot be prepared for it. True we could find a way to keep more people from dying.

Our nation as a whole will be able to defend itself once a large portion of the population has died due to the bio-terrorism. This is because if a nation decides to harm the United States in such a way, there is no real way to prepare for the unknown virus. This type of attack would be planned out in secrecy and therefore lead to devastating effects. The 30-million people estimated to die if such events were to occur would be those that have a weaker immune system or those that have direct contact with the disease(s). If the nation that releases the attack doesn't take precautions, it will hurt itself. If there is not a cure in a reasonable amount of time, there is always the possibility of the extinction of the human race. There is a possibility that bio-terrorism hasn't occurred is because not one nation has fully discovered how to fully execute a plan of bio-terrorism where certain people are able to maintain health.

i agree with your statement about how the nation would not let the pandemic reach too far as i have seen that in many outbreaks, and even if a bio-terrorist releases a dangerous virus there will always be a way to either stop or prevent it from spreading.

Ms.Dawson I do not believe that the ones affected by the bioterrorism would be the people with a weaker health because the epidemic would be so massive and all the bodies will be faced with the unknown.

I believe if we can come together as on we could control bio-terrorism, we might lose a lot of people when trying to control it, the only problem is you never know when a nation will try to attack us.

You are suggesting that the nation is a sitting duck. With the recent actions of our new president, do you think that the government would fund resources to put together a bio-terrorist task group?

M. Rodriguez 4th
3/10/2017 10:04:49 pm

Have you consider thinking about how you would “control bio-terrorism”? Like you said Mr. Cannon, we are not aware as to when a nation would attack, but we also do not know with what. We would lose many people because of the possible pandemic, however by having the unexpected card being used to the enemy’s advantage, we could simply lose all of our people.

We can't really stop bioterrorism if it is kind of already out there. The advancement of technology has already gotten a firm grip on the world so bioterrorism, at this point, shouldn't even be something to worry about since everyone was worried about it since technology took off. With apple, android, etc there's many more technology appliances out that can already kill a good number of people. But the 30 million that was estimated can already be dead at this particular moment in time as far as advancement of technology. All we can do at this point as the ones who aren't affectted by this is prepare for what may be the worst.

According to what standards is technology considered to be "advanced" than bioterrorism? From a historical standpoint, Ancient Egyptians did not expect for vehicles to be self-propelled with motors just as much as they did not envision using a vaccine to stop a disease. In consequence, a cellphone has no more authority than an antibiotic as both can save a life in their own respective ways.

D.Moseley

I disagree with your whole theory presented in your response. Why would the estimated 30 million people already be dead in a situation that was being calculated IF it happens meaning it has not occurred yet? Why shouldn’t we care about bioterrorism when it could destroy the world, as we know it and end your life?

I agree that as a nation can defend ourselves from bioterrorism from other places and factors. If one nation can create weapons to wipe out a large mass of people, then so can our nation. Fight fire with fire. I feel that is the major way that we can defend ourselves from being wiped out (the world as a whole). There are an enormous amount of ways that we can develop a way to fight back against bioterrorists.

Bioterrorism is already out in the world. That being out already is kind of hard to stop because the new technology that we have makes things even harder to break or to pause.

As a nation, I do believe that we can defend ourselves from bioterrorism however, not as quickly as we would want. The article mentions that the nations like the U.S are not prepared to face such atrocity. Nevertheless, we now live in a world where there are so many technological and scientific advances that can create solutions for any type of bioterrorism. With the collaboration of experts around the world, I believe that nothing is impossible especially when it comes to fighting bioterrorism. For the same reason that our world is now very advanced in the areas of technology and science any 30 million people could be affected by it, this is not about who’s wealthier, stronger, or secured. Anyone can be part of the 30 million people affected because everything is so advanced that bioterrorism would not be the exception. Bioterrorist would be sure to create an even more dangerous and stronger version of an epidemic that our bodies would be easily exposed because it would be something like never seen before.

J Vela 5th

In a nation without universal health coverage, such as in the Untied States, it would be difficult to claim that it "as a whole" could defend itself against bioterrorism. It is for that reason that the 30,000 victims would consist of those who cannot afford the medicine, such as the impoverished. In addition, any nation today would struggle with creating a counteractive vaccine as the ones we currently have are gradually becoming obsolete. Due to our sensationalist American media, it would be difficult for citizens to fight bioterrorism using alternative methods like the Gerson Therapy. Overall, the only factor that could possibly save the US from total annihilation would be its land mass.

The U.S., along with several other countries, claim to be powerhouses of the world, yet a great majority of the population is either homeless or in poverty. Considering that the technology is available for bio-teorrist to create pandemic viruses, it is possible that the technology exist to stop these viruses from spreading. However, the cures for these diseases would not be given to the general population. Like most things in society, the rich would have the opportunity to save themselves before the poor. The 30 million deaths would be that of the homeless, the impoverished, and people in the lower middle class. In the same way the government makes medicine and treatments for cancer patients hard to afford, cures for bio-terrorism would be hard to come by if you are an average citizen.

As a nation, the U.S., we cannot defend ourselves as a whole from bioterrorism. It will simply be an everyman for themselves type of situation. America cannot unite in any type of important system whether it is socially, politically, geographically, or economically, so I guarantee we will not when it comes down to the bioterrorism. With a radical leader such as trump driving the country further apart, we will not survive. Those 30 million will probably consist of the individuals who are at a disadvantage like people who are impoverished simply because if they can barely afford to get things they need to survive, so getting materials or medicines needed for survival will be out of the question. Also a part of the 30 million will be skeptics. Social media plays a major role in why the community of skeptic is continuously expanding because everything comes off as fraudulent or a joke, even when it comes to serious circumstances. Because America is already divided, conquering would honestly be no problem with the right materials.

M. Rodriguez 4th

As a nation, we cannot be prepared against bioterrorism because it can be so unexpected. The United States is capable of releasing pandemics, however with the country’s reputation; it is highly possible that others can attack our people first. The 30 million victims would affect the world, because there would be an extreme deficit in the population. Countries as wholes could lose many of their working force and the country’s economy would shatter. Alternatively, even yet the population that would be lost it the impoverished and lower class, the government would see that as a benefit, but the country would be frowning upon it. American is not a unified country, therefore could not be capable of working together towards being prepared or being able to defend themselves.

You state a great point when saying that as a nation we are defenseless since we have no information about an attack against us. However, have you not considered the fact that the nations scientist could come together to work to save the world from a major pandemic. Yes, the surprise attack will hurt our population but if we perceive we will succeed in finding a way to combat the attack.

As a country we can stick together. With the attacks the country will become alarmed to the situation. These 30 million people will have a great impact, their technology will increase as well as the bioterrerism.

S. Mendez 4th
3/10/2017 11:37:22 pm

We as a nation are capable of defending ourselves against bio terrorism, but only after a large amount deaths. As the nations being attacked, we will be ignorant towards the plan of a bio-terrisim attack. The country could go months without knowing of the disease in the air, until they find a pattern in the increased amounts of death. Once a malignant disease is found out, they are under quarantine which is used as a safety precaution to control the disease from speeding. Once in quarantine, we are able to find out of a anti-biotic to combat the bio-terrorism attack. The 30-million deaths will affect many countries, because the epidemic will cause the loss of workers, and send the economy on a downfall. The majority of the deaths will be that of the lower class because of the impoverishment. The homeless, the poor, the low middle class, will be what is affected the most. However, I believe that as a nation we can and will work to find a way to stop the attack immediately and have it under control.

As a Nation we could not be prepared for bioterrorism because it can come when we least expected. People should always be aware of what is on the news and around our environment. Bioterrorism can always happend and after some time we Will be prepared for other occasions if ever happend. We might find a cure for whatever is next and next time there will not be so much people dead. The 30 million will affect people who is nearest to where the virus started, they will be the most affected, also people who is homeless, because they don't have somewhere to hide from. Now days it will be easier to find where the terrorism started, but it will be to late because many people have die. But also the cure will help others to be saved.

America has become a nation where ignorance is accepted throughout society. Bioterrorism is increasing as technology is becoming a large part of the world. As technology enhances the capability of each weapon is increased. With new technology discovered or created, there might be a greater impact. Not many people would be prepared because they're glued to their technology passing time instead of utilizing it. They would be the ones affected, they will become naive to the situation when it's time that they get attacked. As a nation they would try to defend each other, but they really wont know when they get an attack because everything is done in secrecy.
