Dope People Vote

11/4/2018

So...yesterday I went to vote, which totally means I'm dope. And although the outcome wasn't all blue, I still have hope, don't you?

One thing I am so proud of is knowing that I had a say in boosting so many women into high political arenas. I don't know what that could mean for the United States, but usually, when women take over, things get done!

Tuesday night was epic for women and minorities in politics. To highlight some women firsts: Houston, Texas, elected nineteen black, female judges; the youngest woman ever was elected to Congress (and she is Puerto Rican); Boston elected the first woman and the first African American District Attorney; Massachusetts elected the first Black woman ever to Congress; Connecticut elected its first black woman ever to Congress; the first Somali-American ever was elected to Congress; the first two Muslim women ever were elected to Congress; and two Native American women were elected to Congress, and one is openly gay!

Other minorities who won big on election night include gay men and an Iranian-American man!

Until yesterday, not since 2008, have I been more proud to be an American voter. In my fantasies, Democrats and Republicans will work together to make life better for all Americans and immigrants, and finally be embraced as the inclusive country that we are intended to be.

Read the commentary above, then comment on the following: "What impact do you think the election of so many women and minorities in such high political positions will have on the United States and why?"

1. INCLUDE: First initial AND last name AND class period.

2. Respond in no more than 10 sentences and no less than five.

3. You MUST respond to at least TWO other posts from any student. Your replies cannot be identical comments on different posts and posting shallow comments such as "I agree" or "I disagree" will earn you a zero. Make sure your reply addresses the comment that you are responding to.

  • Be clear about your position
  • Provide specific support for your argument
  • Use rhetorical devices and other grammar elements

CAUTION!! Do NOT embarrass me, yourself, your class, the English department, the school or your parents with tasteless, meaningless comments. This is for a grade.

As a female minority, i understand the significance of voting. We're the most disrespected class of people and don't have a voice. if we started to vote more, maybe they'd finally start to understand that we matter as well. Republicans are not and do not work in the favor of women or minorities. We as a community have to stand up for ourselves, because they aren't gping to do it for us.

Women have been in suffrage for to long . Even when blacks got the right to vote WHITE WOMEN still couldn’t vote and they were the majority. How is a black man the most disrespected class of people ? Women have been abused, assaulted, degraded, and mocked for as long as there was an earth . Yes black men do struggle a lot in society but black women or women in general are definitely the most disrespected class of people . It's 2019 and women STILL aren't respected.

I won't entirely agree but I won't entirely disagree with your statement. However, the focus shouldn't be on who is suffering the most- because if that was the case nothing would ever get done. We have to know our linage and the pain with it, and let that be the driving force that kicks us into action. That's the only way things can get done around here.

The election of many women and minorities into high political positions will satisfy America's lack of diversity in the office. The election would also give black minorities a voice to speak up on what they face. It could be encouraging to young little girls who are hungry for political success. "What impact do you think the election of so many women and minorities in such high political positions will have on the United States and why?"
As a youth in America, I see this as a major win for us and our future. Although our country is mainly ran by old white men, it’s clear that change is coming really soon, especially with how many women, and minorities being put into higher positions. As women, as minorities, they know what has to be done because they have point of views that are clear to the needs of half of America. Having better diversity in the government over all shows that the future is bright for upcoming generations, there will hopefully be less fear, less death, and more success in our world. No white man would ever know what it’s truly like to be a woman, a minority, or both, so having this in our government gives an insight to create more opportunities for the minorities and for the women that they didn’t have before.

Electing women and minorities in these grand political positions will empower women. Also, it will help establish a balance in diversity throughout the offices. Allowing these women and minorities into office was a huge step in the right direction.

I have to start this response of with say how good this is for woman empowerment. Not only were their women elected but people of many different races and people who are different from the social norm. With the election of so many women in office it will help get equality for women and give us more laws that rule in are favor. Also women are more thorough with their work and choice causing them to act in a rational way which is good for the state. One draw back that comes from the election of so many women is that they sometimes tend to act out of emotion which can be a bad thing. Lastly the election of many young officials is that they lack experience causing them to not know what is best causing them to make choices based off theory’s.

K.Brown 2nd
11/9/2018 03:43:58 pm

To piggy back on ,the draw back of women being elected into high positions is their inability to act without emotion .However , they will have large numbers of women to back them up and support them . This will make their chances of being favored higher .

Our needs will hopefully be met because we have people like us (minorities) in the office to speak for us because they know our struggle in society. That's the problem in the black community. Certain people feel like they shouldn't go out and vote , because their voices won't be heard or things won't change . Yet as as soon as someone is elected that we dislike everyone complains and gets upset about laws that are being created and everything else.

Many people do complain and get angry but they are also told that their vote won't make a difference. Some people may need to see a difference in order to believe it. We can make a difference by voting in minorities because there is more of us than there is of them. Also voting in women is better because they are the ones who tend to know what's best and see the big picture.

Because majority of these elected government officials are women and minorities they will have institute and protect laws regarding to the demographics. The reason I think this is since these political figures have experienced the hardship of being a minority and/or a women. The simple truth is white officials cannot empathize with the struggles of these undermined population because they have never experience it. During the civil right movement era government officials did not believe protestors on the struggles of African-Americans and therefore did not act on their stated grievances. They even went to the extent of saying that African-Americans were exaggerating their substandard treatment in American society. To sum up, I think this election of women minorities in high political positions will have an impact in the United States because they will implement and protect laws for these demographics.

Women in America have equal rights, it’s not the 1940s women can do so much now only if we stop assuming everyone is against us when they aren’t. Don’t assume you’re underneath anyone. Your skin color won’t change anything. We all have the same opportunities just some of us don’t know or were not taught what those opportunities are. I’m tired of women crying about this cause if you step outside of America and see how women are treated. My Step mother grew up in a Muslim nation and you can’t compare it at all.

There have been instances where people i know (women, to be precise) have used this issue as an excuse to their own shortcomings, blaming the men for their inability to achieve their goals. While it is true that many people in America have the tendency to victimize themselves when they aren't victims at all, we can not ignore the fact that there are indeed minorities out there that still suffer from true injustices.

Back to the main point, due to the high amounts of minorities becoming politicians, we will see a change of what kind of laws are passed, and to whom those laws affect positively

The election of minorities and women will have a significant impact on the future of America. The people who lead our country will be more tolerant and understanding of problems in the minority community. This understanding will lead to positive change for future generations. Because so many women have been elected into office, there will be more hope for women in the workplace, which leads to women seeking careers in higher places. The election of minorities and women will also lead to true equal opportunity for all people, which is the foundation of America.

I agree, women will finally get a better chance at being acknowledged for all the work they do and all the possibilities they could unravel. The world and America will see the power women truly has on the world and maybe it will bring a little compassion in this cold and lost place we call America.

Huge impact is right. People doubted minority’s and didn’t think we could do it. Guess what! We did and it feels great to have more people who look like us in congress.

Women and minorities being in political positions is a major step forward to a broad government that is equal and fair. This allows minorities and women’s voices to be heard and given equal opportunity as such if the majority. This could change the future of the US for generations to come. The diversity has went passed just black and white and has spread to gender and racial equality.

"What impact do you think the election of so many women and minorities in such high political positions will have on the United States and why?"
I feel like the women and minorities who have been elected will the give the world their solution to the many problems that white men can not solve. Minorities and Women will have a huge impact because it will allow the world to be more open to different perspectives. Women in my opinion work harder than men and will get the job done. I honestly feel like people will start to respect women more and look at women more than a housewife. It would also add variety to the office since it is majority of White men.

I totally agree, it will broaden the eyes of the world to see a bigger picture. A picture that includes the perspective of not only those who are looking for change for those minorities but those who are considered Majority.

The impact that the election will have is that the U.S. will become a more welcoming place. People will start to accept others no matter their color or sexual preference. Another impact the election will have is to make people more confident, people know their leaders are gay or the same race as them they will be more confident. The election will be historic and I think it stands for a lot and shows how much the U.S. has changed. In my opinion, I'm glad this has happened, I'm sure these leaders will do great things!

Giving women the slightest peep of light to make things better for all instead of a few she’ll most definitely digg to get to her goal maybe even bigger if possible.. having a women’s point of view on things would really better a lot in society today. I feel it is great they we are starting to rise to the challenge they everyone has set for us and proving them wrong

I feel that minorities and women being placed in higher positions of the american government will benefit both groups in a positive way. It will give minorities a more supportive lead way into the government in ways of making minorities easier ways to be successful. They will be provided benefits that were not provided before. Their voices will more than likely be heard. Women will be more empowered and encouraged to speak on what they feel is important. Women will have a better chance in making a difference for the position women subconsciously hold in America. The women will finally be able to make a change in how the world sees them. They will be able to redefine the stereotypes and doubts placed upon them.

I totally agree with you, having minorities in high office will benefit us as people. It will also show that no matter what, we will always be great if we try hard

It will benefit us because they’re black just like us. We aren’t usually though about when there is a Hispanic leader in power.

The women and minorities who have been elected into high political roles will create a huge impact because they will show a different side theat may not have been brought up in years. Our country won’t be closed to one view but will not be open to many different perspectives.Voices that have been hushed for years can now be heard and we can now be given the opportunity we have been denied for a long time. Now minorities and women will gain the respect they deserve. Our country has not yet become its full power and with the help of these new women and minorities change can definitely be seen in the future.

The impact of having women and minorites in the office will impact America future. Both minorites and women have never been respected in America. Now they have a voice and they will continue to have one. America is now opening doors to have more females and minorites in office.

This helps minority’s in a big way. I love this so much. We have people that actually care about us. This doesn’t mean they’ll fix our problems, but they are more susceptible now to do so. I’m very proud of this happening.

I believe the high position of the minorities and women may impact the US greatly. This event shows that anyone can be really successful no matter who you are. So many people will see that women and minorities can be great because of there knowledge. I came to the conclusion that people in American will stop putting you at a certain status based of your looks and were you came from and find people who can make a better change for America's sake.

I am glad that women and minorities are getting more of a position into powerful positions such as government. However, it is not only about them getting these positions, now they have to maintain them. The way that more women and minorities can do more important things and hold more important positions is by being active. They have to show people that they are worth keeping in government and that they can hold up to the standards given to them. That is the only way that people will be more open-minded to women and minorities in these such positions.

Black people as a whole should have a bigger voice. We can impact the U.S. in a powerful way. And these woman have worked very hard to get into the position they’re in.

Mixed Ink is our class blog, the window into our souls. It was designed to improve students' writing, critical thinking and communication skills by giving them a platform to provide meaningful content based on their interpretation of what they see.

Although the students receive a grade based on a rubric for completing this assignment, they are not graded on complexity of thought. This is a place where students of all levels can freely, confidently and creatively express themselves and their opinions in a nonjudgmental platform. They are required to respond to and critique each other, but degradation, slander, lewdness, etc., will not be tolerated.
