"You are what you do, not what you say." ~Tuan Haji
Teenagers have the world in front of them by the time they graduate. There is absolutely nothing stopping you, but yourself, from doing whatever you want to do with your life.

Many teens make plans and say they will do one thing or another, but unfortunately, for whatever reason, a year or two later, those plans are collecting dust as distant memories in the back of their minds. What happens?

Instructions: Defend or challenge whether when it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you have done?

INCLUDE: First initial AND last name AND class period.

Respond in no more than five (5) sentences and no less than five (5). You must also reply to a classmate's post. You cannot post identical comments on different classmates' posts. Posting shallow comments such as "I agree" or "I disagree" will not earn you a passing grade. Make sure your posts address the reply that you are responding to.

Be sure to--
  • Be clear about your position
  • Provide specific support for your argument
  • Use rhetorical devices and other grammar elements
  • Write EPIC Content-Engaging, Powerful, Informative, Creative

CAUTION!! Do NOT embarrass me, yourself, your class, the English department, the school or your parents with tasteless, meaningless comments. This is for a grade.

Many teenagers that are seniors attends to go to the college center and do the test that was required for them and take care of business they graduate, but some seniors that don't care and skip school manage not attending graduation they want to know why because they skip ,don't pass or go to ISS for no reason.Been a senior is not hard you just got to listen ,take notes ,do the class/home work and pass the test some people take like it is nothing.I will remember this school year and the other school year too,but the one teacher i will miss is Ms.D even though people say she is mean i disagree because she is not mean she just want us to listen, pay attention and do the work .My plans for the future is to be a movie director that is what i want to do.

I agree about when Trevon Smith said about Ms.D. Ms.D is really not a mean teacher...she just mean business and trying to prepare the seniors that are in her class for college. All you have to do is take good notes, pay a attention more wisely, do your work and turn in everything. People that are seniors should not lack around when it comes to graduate.

I totally agree with your point of view. Many seniors do not take college serious when they get there. Many start skipping classes and affect those around them doing the same thing. Being in college is a big deal for a person who family does not go. Being a senior is not easy but rather challenging.

Been a senior is not hard because all you really have to do is set up positive goals, listen very closely, do all classwork/homework and all times, turn in complete work, take good notes, and study so you can graduate. The core classes that we take is to help us in college and help us pass our ACT and SAT test to go to a university or any college. Every senior should sit down somewhere and think about what they should improve their senior year to graduate and what they want to do in the future.

I agree with your statement however, they are sitting down thinking about how to graduate SENIOR year of high school and the promt is asking why they don't follow up on their goals and plans they made their senior year 1 or 2 years later. What do you think is stopping them after leaving high school?

As a teenager we do try to strive to make plans for our future . However being in college and in highschool is two totally ball game. In high school we plan on going to college and study what you are majoring . once entering college you get how college is not like high school so you began to slack . Students also go to college to get away from there parent but end up dropping out because the plan they set is not working thats why you future go to waste.

As teenagers we say things that we plan to accomplish goals on a daily basis whether short term or long term. But our fault in this action is once we accomplish these goals we do not know what to do next because we were so focused on getting that one task done. That is also why we as a generation have problems with and I am guilty of this too. We do not plan ahead to stay on track and this sets us back.

Ms. Criss, I agree with your statement saying that we tell people our everyday goals. Setting goals should be an everyday thing. If you're not setting goals or achieving something, then why are you living?

victor ajuobi
4/13/2017 06:25:26 pm

I challenge the idea that a teenager just says things but never acts upon those goals or dreams. I say this because,a persons goal is something that can be obtained but it was to that person to follow up on those promises to themselves. For example, the successful people of today like Bill gates, all had a goal or dream and stuck to it and became successful by following their dreams. I'm saying it depends on the person, anybody can say they will do something and will not do it in the end. It is a persons character and determination that pushes them to do the things they want to do in life. So, no a teenager who says they can do something will be able to do it, just apply themselves, focus, and learn about what they want to do in life.

J. Wegscheider

I defend the statement that people will have said more than they do. From personal experience, I have encountered many times where I have been angered and said things I said I would do that I did not particularly mean. I have never acted on these words, and with this I strongly agree that people say more than they do. A lot of people have a habit of this and most times apologize about things they say. In many cases, I apologize to the person or people I said things to because I was angry.

Every situation is different just as every mindset of every young person. Actions speak louder than words so I do believe that when its all said and done more will be said than done. The reason being that circumstances change the reality of what young people had planed, circumstances that were created by those same people. Furthermore, change is what puts those plans on hold. So, because they are put on hold at the end of the day more will be said than done.

S. Mendez 4th
4/15/2017 09:26:36 am

All mindsets are different, therefore I choose to challenge the statement. People talk a lot and say they will do things but it's wrong to think that nobody can live up to said words. At the end of the day it all falls down on to who the person is and where they heart and mindset is. If the person is ambitious enough or committed enough they will find the hustle they need to follow their dreams. As long as the person has the urge and fire in their body to do everything they have ever planned they will get it done. They'll make their own opportunities and find them where least expected .

Personally, I know that I will be more of a 'doer' rather than a 'sayer'. If there's one thing I can not tolerate it is sitting idle as time goes by and not having any purpose in life. I am the type of person that constantly needs something to do, otherwise I become extremely antsy. There are somany people who have the world as their oyster yet they settle for a simple piece of fish. I don't want to look up one day and realize that ten years have passed by. Afterall, you only have one life so why not live it.

D.Moseley-1st pd
4/15/2017 10:01:34 am

I choose to challenge that teens are more of words than action simply because everyone is different. A lot of teens may seem like they're full of hot air but at the end of the day whether they match action to those words are up to that individual. People end up doing more than what is initially said because life does happen and allow that person to learn and be greater than said. Teens of this generation are dedicated and hard working whether it's to their craft or to a job. Because of our discredited reputation or our elders experience, teens are doubted and because the parent made mistakes society expects us to fall into that same caged mindset.

kenneth ajuobi
4/15/2017 11:48:07 am

I disagree we have more action than words to speak of because of the years study has show as generational movement movies on we as human evolve based on are surrounding so just by say we are words and nothing more is practical,.

I would like to defend because being a teenager we tend to strive for the goal we are trying to reach, but during this process we wait around for a year or two to getting started to work towards the goal we are trying to accomplish or even get distracted at some point and lose focus on what's important to us. With that being said you should let your actions speak louder than you words.

"Actions speak louder than words" even though that only may be a saying, but to a certain extent it's true. Every individual and their own mindset and we all cannot be categorized together. For example, a few's focus might be lost during the process of succeeding, but get back on track in the end to achieve their goals. There are others that from day one, they work to be successful with no distractions because that is how they work. At times obstacles and other circumstances come into plan and plans have to be set aside, but they'll get back to it in the end if they are truly dedicated.

What happens is reality sets in. They believe everything will be handed to the or there will be a guided pathway and it's not. They are taken away from there sheltered lifestyle and exposed to what's real and what happens beyond there hometown. When it's all said and done I would hope that I've done more than I said because I want to be about it and not just talk about. I'm a skeptic when it comes to others words when they have no action to back it up. As a teenager I feel you are most confused in what you want to do in life and that may also be why those goals and plans collect dust.

J.Bonilla - 1st
4/15/2017 11:40:29 am

The saying “Actions speak louder than words” apply in the situation where talking and doing fall into play. As human beings we like to express ourselves, in a way of making ourselves appear better in front of an audience. There are some people that are humble, and make great things happen, as to those who just talk to make themselves look like good and determined people but make nothing happen. Saying something has a less of an impact as doing it. I challenge the statement because as an instinct I have goals, but I set myself to do it before I talk to much about it and give the sense of high hopes.

I think teenagers say these things to hype up there peers, not knowing the reality they will face once it comes. I think they're just giving answers without knowing how to make their plans a fruition. People say things and make promises they have no intention of keeping on a daily basis. When reality sets in, it's like a wake up call and can be hard to overcome if you are not truly passionate
