Country Bey

11/3/2016

Picture
Check this out: Beyonce performed "Daddy Lessons" alongside the Dixie Chicks at the Country Music Awards (CMA) on Wednesday night. However, her fans, known as the Bey hive, were not enchanted with Kenny Chesney because of his glacial stare and ripped him apart on social media. Now however, the CMA has had to remove all references and images of Bey and the Chicks from their Web site and social media because of racist comments. WHAT is going on in the world?!

Cultural Appropriation:

Bey's performance was cultural appreciation. If culture is a beautiful thing, then why not share it? Sharing is caring. Kenny Chesney's hard glare during this performance indicates how many people feel insecure without something to identify with. Culture is something many fall back upon and when others try to "steal" it , it makes them uncomfortable. The major thing that makes this an even more controversial situation is Bey's race. Eminem doesn't have as many problems.

Her performance was cultural appreciation. Beyonce is a great performer and was able to conquer the "obstacle" of singing alongside dominantly country performers. Beyonce has many ways to express herself as do many people. All because ONE person glared at her does not mean what she was doing was wrong. When you do you, people will hate.

I totally agree. Culture is a beautiful thing. I believe country music fans who do not listen to Beyonce, felt threatened because they were afraid that Beyonce would take over the country music world. They then criticized her & said things like "Beyonce is not a country singer." Since when do you as an artist have to stick to one specific genre? She was strictly sharing a culture of music with country fans that she adored as much as they did.

Kenny may have even been insecure about his own talents because she is such a global celebrity. Bey has some of the most prominent recognition's not only as a singer but as an artist overall. But, it could've been hate as well. Not all people in this current society are culturally assimilated.

Yes your race has nothing to do with picking up new cultures and wanting to appreciate them in many ways.I honestly think His stare was of confusion or jealous not because he was angry that she was singing

Bey's performance was cultural appreciation. Not only if even doing what she think best for her like one of students saying sharing is caring. If she don't like what she do then there's no words to say

Insecure and lack of acceptance to change. Many people who are attacking her are not open-minded or knowledgeable enough about artist and how they can change what genre they sing or rap to. Not only that she is changing her genre but she is trying to unitfiy two usually unconnected genres and show her appreciation of their music by adding her flair to it. If people were more open minded about things I believe that they would have seen Beyoncé performance with the Dixie Chicks as a eye opening experience and show how a group and an artist can come together for a common goal.

I also believe that culture is something that should be shared. The world would not have progress to what it is today had people not shared culture and ideas.

Beyonce's electric performance with Dixie Chicks was pure Culture Appreciation. Beyonce knows what genre she is classified in, but in 2016 has since stepped outside of her "selected genre" & produced a country song, which she so generously agreed to perform & show cultural appreciation to the Country Music World to on the CMAs. Beyonce's performance was purely to show that she is not subject to rhythm & blues, hip hop, pop, rap, etc... She wanted to show how much country was used in the makings of her music. Her performance with Dixie Chicks; a renown country music group was a basically a tribute & a way to show the country music world culture appreciation.

I believe beyonće performance was very unique and outstanding. She has alot of fans and and people that look up to her so i am pretty sure she knew the consequences before performing at CMA's. Personally I wouldn't expect beyonće to perform at CMA's i would have predicted her to perform at R&B or Hip Hop Awards rather than CMA's. Her performing at the CMA's with the dixie chicks is very marvelous and she is very much appreciated for that. Beyonće is a huge icon and i hope she shows the media that she appreciates alot of events.

I agree with Emmanuel I wouldn't expect Beyoncé to perform at CMA. She knew that if she performed with Dixie Chicks that it was going to be people hating on her. Other part to is that Beyoncé fans shouldn't said anything to performance. That what start the whole situation.

I defend Beyoncé at the CMA Wednesday night.Beyoncé performance at the CMA was amazing. She decided to perform with the Dixie Chicks in a unbelievable performance. In this society nowadays the social media and reporter will bring you down no matter how great you do. They shouldn't took all Beyoncé pictures down because some people have a problem with Beyoncé with country artists. No matter if she support Black Lives Matter it don't make all African American bad. This world is just getting worst everyday.

To say that Beyoncé's pictures were taken down because people had a problem with her to then include the supporters of Black Lives Matter is contradicting. Why? because you speak about what society has come to by connecting and tracing it back to race which shows what society has come to , when in fact the whole problem might have been because she sings a whole different genre.

Beyonce performance with the chicks was cultural appreciation because it shows how cultures can mixed and come together. This performance by Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks was cultural appreciation. This was because Beyonce was singing with a country artist, and she tried to adopt the culture of that music. She should be able to sing whatever she pleases and her fans should still support her. Also, her fans should not have attacked Kenny even if he 'did something' wrong. Although they are her fans, they should not have done that.

Beyoncé performance was cultural appreciation because she was not stealing anything from the CMT crowed. Although, Beyoncé has gone towards a more R&B and pop genre that does not charge the fact that she able to venture off into other genres. Honestly if CMT thought her performance was going to be seen a cultural appropriation they wouldn't have let her go the whole process of getting ready for the show. I believe that the meaning of the performance went over people heads it was a blend of two normally divided cultures, because you don't normally see r&b and pop mixed with country, coming together to show unity. It more of a performance of unity than a "Beyoncé doesn't sing country, why is she on the stage." type of thing.

D.Moseley- 1st pd
11/4/2016 08:12:25 pm

Bey's performance was definitely cultural appreciation. With her having the heart to not only sing with other artist knowing her dominant status in the industry, but singing with a different genre showed her open acceptance of mixing cultures. The performance as a whole was a cultural exchange between races, genres, different types of people, different backgrounds, and different celebrity statuses.

E.Valdez- 4th pd
11/4/2016 08:19:52 pm

Beyoncé's performance at the Country Music Awards is cultural appreciation because through her performance and type of genre she is demonstrating that there shouldn't be any boundaries in the society we live in today. Beyoncé performs a country song although the world is use to seeing and hearing her sing a whole different boundary she stepped out of her comfort zone, something that no one dares to do because everyone is controlled by the expectations of society. Instead of being criticized and judged because she was not as some may call it "in the right place", her performance was the definition of cultural appreciation. Everyone who performed along side Beyoncé showed that everyone should be allowed to "adopt" a certain style of music no matter what you are known for or what your background is. Many say that people should always think outside of the box yet when doing so people get criticized which is what happened with Beyoncé's performance. There was judgement because it was unordinary for a R&B and pop singer to perform on the CMA and although everyone holds their own perspective there was no reason to create such problem out of nothing because Beyoncé and the performance in general did not disrespect the CMA's in anyway.

I strongly agree with you, E.Valdez. Especially when you said,"everyone is controlled by the expectations of society." By Beyoncé performing at the CMAs, she showed she's her own person and doesn't care what anyone thinks. Her being such an influential person and doing what she did may change people's perspective on music. I felt the statement being made is Music has no color!

Beyoncés performance was culture appreciation, she's a great singer over all and for her to perform on that platform shows she embraces all cultures and is willing to give it her in any genre of music .

She could have embraced cultural diffusion through a released album instead of a public performance that could have been taken care of by a more "qualified" singer. There are other country singers who through their contributions to country music, have a stronger right to perform at the Country Music Awards than Beyonce.

Beyoncé's performance was a case of cultural appreciation. She is not just a singer, but an artist. Artists love music of all genres and utilize different styles to enhance their own sound. Furthermore, the performance can be seen as Beyoncé making new strides in he music industry. She is exploring who she is as an artist and where she wants to take her music career. No one should be faulted for that. Musicians who are less known than Beyonce do the same by covering songs, so this is not a new, unnatural phenomenon.

Adding on to what K. Maple said Bey's performance was cultural appreciation.Showing the country that its not about the genre of the music its what your stating and what your promating. How Beyonce's fans chose to react was a whole different perspective then the one she was viewing. Beyonce wouldn't have performed if she know how her fans would attack her co-performer.She was just trying to harmlessly entertain.

L.Marshalls point on Bey's fans reaction to her performance. They didn't understanding what she was actually trying to do, make a cultural statement! Beyoncé wanted to be an example to her fans. She's trying to show them more than they want to see. The genre of music is not a factor in the meaning of the lyrics.

It's a shame how African American is getting treated in this society. Beyoncé just wanted to do a song with Dixie Chicks for a unbelievable performance. Beyonce performance was cultural appreciation given that she was doing what she loves. The way that Beyonce perform that day was amazing because it was a different genre, and she is not used to sing that, but she still did a great job because she took that seriously and give everything that she has. People criticized Beyonce after her performance at CMA because she was doing something unusual. People should appreciate what a great artist she is and that she can perform any kind of music they give her to do, stepping outside of her Comfort zone is hard, not any artist is able to do what she did because they are not comfortable with it. The way Beyonce overcame her obstacle of being criticized by other people just because her race is wrong, the race does not matter if you are a great artist and you know how to do give you best every time.

J Vela 4th

Having a hip-hop artist make an appearance during the Country Music Awards is like having a flautist sing in "Les Miserables." Beyonce's participation at the CMA's was ill-planned, for there are a whole bunch of other full-time country music artists who could have sung on the stage. By accepting to sing at the CMA's, Beyonce stepped into a genre of music which she does not represent. Although it is alright for people to explore different customs from different cultures, one must be cautious to not act immediately as a birth-righted individual in the community. Beyonce could have explored her country music style through an album of her own release instead of a live event. Over time, Beyonce would have been able to gain respect and be widely accepted by other country music artists.

Beyonce's performance indicated cultural appreciation. She is well known to sing R&B or Pop, but she decided to work outside her comfort area. She sang with a singer that is well known to sing country. Beyonce is one of the most influential people in the world. Her message showed how unique or different is in fact a good thing, as she mixes genres. Her song was originally sang in a different genre, therefore she decided to switch it up while performing at the CMA's.

I felt beyonces performance at the CMAs was cultural appreciation. Being a black woman perfoming at the country awards, which most believe is for Caucasian people ,is a great thing. Beyoncé is a global known artist, and for her to show cultural appreciation may influence her fans. It also speaks volumes about her character. Beyoncé exploring different genres of music, I believe will only show the people that music doesn't having a color on it.
