Having book smarts is better than having street smarts. Write it out.

Having book smarts is better than street smarts primarily because of the objectivity of book smarts. Street smarts are subject to opinion and biases, which can end up making the person draw the wrong conclusion. Book smarts are backed up by many educated scholars who have cumulatively spent centuries, if not millennia, researching the world. Even if street smarts can be useful in some areas, book smarts are overall more consistent and effective.

I really do like the way you explained your opinion on the topic, but for this one i'd have to disagree. Having street smarts sets off the basis of all your knowledge, and it helps you deal with realistic real world problems. Yes street smarts are biased but sometimes we need to think from the heart and what we believe, not by what some book had told us.

Not necessarily, just because someone has studied their whole life doesn't mean that much when it comes to real life situations. there are many things that you might need to know when you're in a bad situation. One is just important as the other pertaining that you know when to use them is the real deal breaker. For example I've had many run-ins with the DPD before, I knew what to do in those situations way before i even learned how to in a classroom. Street smarts don't only pertain to knowing how to sell drugs or being in a gang or whatever you may think. It's all about survival and how to get out of a bad placement/position.

I can agree that being book smart would help you in a lot of different situations. In most cases like get you a certain job you've wanted but, there are also things like knowing how to communicate or evaluate a person's feelings, body language, thoughts etc. That only a person that has been through those type of situations may know mostly because they've experienced it in real life not just in a book.

I agree. Street smarts aren't all that useful in schools and/or the work field. Though at this point, street smarts are beginning to be more useful within schools as kids don't know how to settle disputes anymore, which is endangering everyone.

I feel that both are useful, they help throughout life, and teach you how to live based on your environment. Normally street smart people are better at making decisions faster. On the other hand book smarts take their time making a decision.

Having books smarts is not better than having streets smarts. I believe these so called books smarts we gain in school, are useless in the world. Books smarts can only get you so far in real life situations, such as adding or subtracting money. Streets smarts will stick with you forever, plenty of people make a living off of life experience, maybe something they've done or had to go through. I believe streets smart will get you much farther than books smarts ever will.

I couldn't agree more. The two go hand in hand and are incredibly useful as a duo. A lot of people go under the wing of just one of them but it's better to learn some of both as you will be in situations that require the knowledge of one or the other, or maybe both.

I don’t think that having book smarts is better than having street smarts. I think that having both is essential because books won’t teach you the way life actually works or how people act in real life. There’s many lessons that you can learn from the streets that book will not teach us, but books are a great source of knowledge. We can learn many things from them and exercise our brains. People could be book smart but very naive in life.

Book smarts are better than street smarts because they can educate you on what you're interested in and you can learn things you wouldn't have without reading a book. Book smarts will make school easier while street smarts will help you out in making everyday decisions so I think both are needed. But book smarts can get you further in life than street smarts because of how important education is.

Agreed. A lot of these huge careers and jobs come from education or athletes, but even with athletes they are held to a certain standard with their education in order to play/succeed. Book smarts are like a gateway to money.

Honestly, I don't know who would prefer to be street smart rather than book smart. Efficiently speaking, being book smart would consider you to have more options when it comes to choosing a career and making a consistent amount of funds. Rather than being street smart in which you may be highly prepared but still comes with the downside of possibilites in which you may find yourself i the wrong spot/situation.

Having book smarts overpowers street smarts because the majority of the time, it is being academically smart that helps a person succeed. When people become things like lawyers, doctors, technicians, engineers, etc. it comes from book smarts. When people book smarts and do really well in school, they can get scholarships.

You need street smart and book smart in life to succeed. Book smart broadens your knowledge and enhances many of your skills. You think things through and make more logical decisions. Street smart, you learn many skills through trial and error and you are able to read a room which is something you need in today's society. Street smart also has to do with common sense. We all need common sense to succeed in life.

Well, in any given circumstance one might serve you better than the other. I think being street smart is better as there are things you just can't learn from books. Being street smart means having very good social skills and are able to find solutions and improvise in difficult situations. However, if a person is working towards a goal that is highly academic book smarts are definetly more beneficial.

yes street marks can have negative and positive things. Books smarts is great to have when getting into college, getting a job, and just overall being successful

Right now in our lives books smarts are very much needed to keep our minds straight. With everything that is going on in the world having knowledge is important. You can be smart when doing things like voting, traveling, or doing everyday things. Update your brain to make smart choices.

Being book smart is way better than being street smart, because book smart helps you in school and you gain real knowledge. Both have their own ways in gaining knowledge, but you definitely don't want all your knowledge to be street smart if you want to be successful.

Exactly, just because you are street smart does not mean you will get your way in any fair way. People can be against you and then bam.. If only you had more than just street smart knowledge to know what is better and what is worse.

I agree with the both are ways to gain knowledge, however, There are times where things from the books will NOT be able to help you. Most things in books/history are about things that have already happened, and although the is important to know so we don't make the same mistakes again, we cannot base everything from being book smart, and there are other ways to go in life if someone chose to not continue in their education.

Being book smart is way better than being street smart, being street smart only goes one way. And you always end up dead or in prison/jail, being book smart can open up many opportunities for you and your family.

Having street smarts is better than having book smarts because with book smarts you can't apply the things you've learned from them. I say this because a lot of the information you obtain from books you're unable to use in real life situations. Also, to gain a grasp on books smarts you need to be able to understand practical street smarts.

I disagree with you saying that book smarts aren’t practical. There is so much that people learn from books that they apply to their everyday life. Take socialization, or professions like plumbing, electricians, and doctors. You can learn a lot from books, you’re just not looking in the right places.

I overall think that there is no question whether one is better than the other. There may be certain situations that might require you to know certain things about the streets that the books can't help you with in life or death situations. It can always be reversed i'm basically stating that they are both needed to a certain extent.

To be honest I think being book smart is better, because it does not matter what kind of books you are into or “smart” about being book smart could mean about being at school, work, etc. Street smart, you basically can get yourself in trouble it doesn’t matter when, where, or how.

Book smarts can only get you so far. If you are a person in society that cannot do basic things and know where you are, you won’t make it long. However, you should be a mixture of both because you still need to go to college and get a good job.

I think it is better to be street smart. if a person is more street smart they have a good understanding of the world around them. You can grow a lot from that and use your knowledge from events that may have happened to everyday life. Now i am not saying we don't ever need to be book smart. I think there needs to be a good balance of both BUT in the off chance you only need one, i would rather be street smart.

I personally think being book smart is better than street smart. Book smart is more practical and common, some people choose street smart because that’s how they were raised or born. Also bring book smart someone could disagree with you and say your wrong but technically your right all the time.

i honestly think being book smart is better than being street smart. i think this because depending on how book smart you are you could be more sucessful and make more money than a street smart person, not only that its much more safer and its legal doing stuff in the street could be dangerous or could harm your life in a bad way such as getting arrested, gaining a criminal record, or even costing your own life.

I feel that people should have a good amount of both types.Book and streets smarts are useful for different things and it can be helpful having them. If one had to be chosen however, I'd say that book smarts is more important.

Although being street smart can come in handy every now and then, being book smart is always an essential skill. Being able to work and provide for yourself based on what you learn from the world is a good thing to have. So I believe both can help and balence each other.

Being book smart is better than street smart , people who are book smart excel in tasks that require analytical thinking, memorization, and comprehension of complex concepts. They also tend to perform well in academic settings. Being book smart will help with your future career.

I think both book smarts and street smarts can benefit you. I think applying book smarts and street smarts to your mindset can make you look at things from a different perspective. In some situations its better to apply street smarts than book smarts. I feel like a balance of both should be good.

Mixed Ink is our class blog, the window into our souls. It was designed to improve students' writing, critical thinking and communication skills by giving them a platform to provide meaningful content based on their interpretation of what they see.

Although the students receive a grade based on a rubric for completing this assignment, they are not graded on complexity of thought.
