I think that this is saying that everybody in the world that are all shaps and sizes every body is equal and the same.

Sylvia Richardson
3/26/2014 12:32:47 pm

I disagree with Aaron Guery, this statement is not saying that everybody in the world are all shapes and sizes. It is saying that we are divided because people are different. And we are not able to recognize or accept the differences in people. People are different in their race, sex or social values.

andrew stanley
3/28/2014 03:10:12 am

I disagree with this statement because the idea of the quote isn't just speaking on the appearance of people ,its speaks on all differences that people have, such as Ideas and etc.

simone frazier

Unless they refuse to except their individual differences.

Deja Starks
3/28/2014 02:09:26 am

I disagree with him because it isn't about shapes and sizes. This statement focus on the inability of humans not realizing their differences from one another.

Jessica Thompson

The quote "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences" is true because the image that appears to make us divided is not what makes us different. The mind set and what we chose to accept makes us stand out.

James Roberson
3/25/2014 10:56:30 am

Instead of looking at the positive side of our diversity, we would rather view the negative aspect of an individual. This is common in mankind; always viewing the bad and not the good. Without our different characteristics, that shape and form our identities, no one would be unique. We humans refuse to accept someone who's different from us as if it was a natural part of life to be identical.
Going back in history, you'll notice in the Holocaust that Hitler hated those who didn't have blonde hair and blue eyes. He believed to appear as such that you were the predominant race. Digging deeper, this can be a theory in why slavery came about. Caucasians believed that if you weren't white then you was beneath the ground, the same as they viewed the Africans. Both of these unsubstantiated opinions was "our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences".

Anastacio Carrillo
3/27/2014 02:24:45 am

I agree with James because we are judge or only look at our bad things about ourselves instead of the good things

NaShonte Lewis
3/27/2014 08:40:54 am

I agree with James. People always have negative things to say about other people instead of positive things. Everything doesn't have to be criticized.

Tia Lay
3/27/2014 02:05:58 pm

I would like to think James is correct because not every one is perfect. We are so quick to judge a book (person) by its cover before we even know what the story is about. Just because that person appear to be different than what we expect them to be, that do not mean they can not operate like we do. We as people should stop judging the book and read the story instead.

Shermaria Williams
3/25/2014 03:05:20 pm

Some people have a hard time accepting the way they were made. They have low self-esteem which can make them stand out more than others.

Miracle fuller
3/26/2014 12:41:14 am

I think its seying that we all have to accept who we are.

Keyawna Brooks
3/26/2014 05:02:54 am

The quote is basically saying that our lack of open-mindedness condemns us and makes us not only judgmental, but ignorant and blind.

Jessica Thompson
3/28/2014 03:10:42 am

I agree simply because the quote is explaining how not being open minded blocks our decision and judgement

Sylvia Richardson
3/26/2014 12:31:02 pm

Each person is unique and has different color of hair, facial features and other traits. There are many differences that can bring people together or divide them. This statement is postive that it is not our differences that divide us. It is not being able to recognize and accept the differences in each person. You have to realize and understand that people have different characteristics but that doesn’t make them any less or better than yourself. Many people do not understand or accept people from other cultures, their body shape or those that have a handicap. The differences may vary but that is what makes the world a different place. Once you recognize and accept that we are all different, it will help you celebrate those differences and enjoy life.

Ronnie Carter
3/26/2014 01:29:06 pm

This is one of the things in life that many people seem to forget and It's saddening to see it.The reason being that everyone has differences, from their hair, their teeth, and their personality all the way down to their very soul. Many do not realuze that there is no such thing as someone who is exactly the same as you. There are only people who seem similar to the naked eye but upon closer inspection you can plainly see that they are in fact, different. It is everyone's refusal to acknowledge this irrefutable fact that there are wars, fights, discrimination, sexism, isolation and various other erronousky judgemental things. Our differences are what make us who we are and they do not make us any better or worse than another. The sooner we realize this the sooner we can grow to be true human beings.

James Roberson
3/27/2014 12:36:04 pm

You're absolutely right! People mistakenly assume how a person is until they really get to know them, "but upon closer inspection", you'll actually find out the real "them".

smone frazier
3/27/2014 12:35:20 am

I agree with this quote because if you embrace your qualities and except them then it will be easier for you to go through life. If a person isn't comfortable in their own skin then they truly will be different.

Shermaria Williams
3/27/2014 01:33:48 am

Exactly! There are a lot of women that have a fuller figure than an average woman but they have no problem embracing the way they were made.

Fabian Mendez
3/27/2014 06:02:03 am

I agree with you smone frazier because one needs to accept who they are in order to open your eyes and see who your true friends are and who will stand by you no matter your situation.

Vernell Newman
3/27/2014 12:44:11 am

I agree with the quote because as people we don't take the time out to meet someone new or be friendly with others in this generation its all about who's harder and who down nobody wants to be friendly and it seems like its against the law

sequan allen
3/27/2014 04:26:22 am

I agree with you because a lot of people pretend to be someone tought when in the inside they are actually a good person they want to be

Anastacio Carrillo
3/27/2014 02:23:01 am

This quote "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences." Is true because no one is judged by their differences, it's you who doesn't accept who you are if you consider yourself different

Devante Dickerson
3/27/2014 03:50:34 am

I believe Mr. or Ms. Lorde was trying to say even though everyone has that one different trait or aspect to themselves, we as individuals look besides that and enjoy each others presence. Which is basically saying everyone is equal no matter what trait or aspect another person has.

sequan allen
3/27/2014 04:23:13 am

I agree with this quote because these days we don't communicate as much as we use to. I believe one of the reasons why this is true because of the technology that is provided to us. these days being friendly to others is not cool. they rather fight each other and put down those who are less fortunate. which is why some people pretend to be a person knowing that is not their true characteristics. they buy clothes they cant afford and spend money they know they need. so yes I completely agree with this quote.

Michael davis
3/27/2014 04:30:35 am

It is saying even though we are all different and have different traits and talents we all need each other in this world we are all in it together.

Abrasia Smith
3/27/2014 05:31:07 am

I Agree with this quote "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those difference." We tend to judge people because of their lifestyle and their differences we don't wanna be friends with them because they are so different from us. We should accept each other and take people as they are.

Fabian Mendez
3/27/2014 05:56:45 am

This quote is true because a person needs to notice them self first and accept who they are in order for someone else to accept them because everyone is different and everyone have their own way of thinking as well.

NaShonte Lewis
3/27/2014 08:38:16 am

I agree with this quote. People are so judgemental that it's hard for others to feel accepted. They feel that someone will judge them based on what they do, how they look, what they wear, etc.

Tia Lay
3/27/2014 02:18:00 pm

Being different from someone else is that person's own uniqueness. Why judge someone you hardly even know. Just because the person walks strange, talk funny, or tend to comprehend slower than someone else does not make them weird. In today's society people tend to go off of other people opinion instead of going to find out for themselves, which this shouldn't be the case or the matter. We should just learn to accept the ones that are different and appreciate the things they do.

Darrian Bryant
3/28/2014 03:52:18 pm

I agree with you. People often judge someone before they even get to know them personally. Sadly, that's how our society is nowadays. That doesn't mean that people should let this discourage them from embracing their uniqueness and/or weirdness because that's a part of who are and have become to be.

Shanetria Robinson
3/28/2014 01:04:24 am

This quote is true because most people don't accept theirselves for who they are because others are judgemental and what makes us different is our attitude and our character. We all should be ccomfortable for who we are. A person should accept theirselves before they start being judged. Some people are followers because they don't want others to feel down around them.

dawn
3/28/2014 03:06:11 am

The feeling is mutual.

Reginald Merritt
3/28/2014 01:33:09 am

This quote means that people are different that's not the issue. The issue is that people don't know how to accept people differences which creates a problem in our society.

Deja Starks
3/28/2014 02:07:55 am

This quote, "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences." Means that people rather look at what others have trying to be like the next person, but doesn't even realize their own difference from that person. Everyone to busy thinking they should have more than the person next that they can't even focus on their differences.

shambria wright
3/28/2014 02:10:45 am

I take this quote too mean the things that we do we should enjoy, and our actions are based on our character.we should embrace who we are and be happy. And joyful in the skin we're in

Chequesne Abbs
3/28/2014 02:10:56 am

What i think this statement is saying is that, instead of seeing your faults and differences and what you simply cant do u should be thankful for the things that you can because thats what set you apart from everybody else.

Kortany Freeman
3/28/2014 02:53:27 am

The quote is saying that people are different but thats not it. What it is ; is that people don't accept peoples mistakes and differences which makes a big problem in our world today.

dawn cole
3/28/2014 02:56:15 am

This quote, "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences." Means that we should not live everyday judging eachother when non of us is perfect. We should accept ourselves first before we jump to find reasons to not accept anyone elses ways or their differences.

Luis Zuniga
3/28/2014 02:57:12 am

I agree with the qoute. Its saying that the reason why sometimes don't get along is because you are being judge by the way you look. And they won't accept you for that. A real friend does not judge on looks, they accept you for who you are.Everyone is different in their own way, but some people stand out more than others. The fact that people cannot accept people who are "different" divides us, because we cannot accept and celebrate people being different.

andrew Stanley
3/28/2014 03:01:38 am

This quote in my opinion means is that every one is different ,whether people choose to embrace the difference that people have, and if that happens then alot of innovative, creative ideas would surface .

Lydia Poole
3/28/2014 03:31:44 am

This is saying no matter what shape, size, height we are equal we have no place to judge anyone. Then again people should know the difference between one another and their place. Its okay to be different its nothing wrong with that in todays world thats all you hear what she got on or what he wearing. Does it matter honestly? No, if they are fine with then so be it.

Jamaro Blue
3/28/2014 04:02:31 pm

I completely agree with you , as a nation we should be unified. When we are not we contradict the name of our country, The UNITED States of America. I believe that we should make sure that we at least attempt to understand each other and be more diverse because one dimensional often tend to not make it in this world.

I Think That This Quote Is Saying That All People Are Tried Different From Others No Matter The Skin Color We All Should Be Tried Equal

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. ~Audre Lorde

When reading this quote, i think of all the negative things in the world and why people choose to judge others.. We weren't born that way, we CHOSE to be that way, so when we choose to not like somebody that's our choice.. We should except those differences between one another & the world may become a better place than it is..
An example is like the thoughts we have on mentally ill people, we don't associate with them because they're different, when we should except them for being who they are.

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. ~Audre Lorde. For example how people say I'm different because I'm African or I'm German. These are little differences everyday people have however when you past their skin and look at their personality, there are different things you recognize and make them like you.

How I see it we all are equal some people
Just need to grow up especially grown ups
Becaus we watch how our parents act and they
We reflect on them when we not doing what we
Are sapose to do but not everything we are doing
Is wrong just because someonelse think negative
about you and what you do.

Rodrick Skinner Jr
3/28/2014 09:14:56 am

i agree with you

Rodrick Skinner Jr
3/28/2014 09:12:20 am

i feel like we all come in this world as equal but people grow up and out of it because their are adult who still live in their teenage and kids days and we look up to alot of them as role model but if they act like use then who are our real role models.

Darrian Bryant
3/28/2014 09:56:11 am

I agree with the statement. As we grow, we begin to realize that we are all different. The quote is saying that even though we all have differences, we shouldnt be afraid to show them and be proud of them.

Monserrat Aguilera
3/28/2014 01:02:30 pm

We fail to understand that we are all different, but we still don't accept the differences that we have which divides us apart from others. We should embrace our differences not be afraid of them.

Antoinette Traylor
3/28/2014 02:58:33 pm

I agree totally with this statement , we as a people as a society our differences divide us . We can't look beyond we only look at the surface instead of getting to the real . We all have differences let's show them because no one person is the same

Jamaro Blue
3/28/2014 03:45:55 pm

I Agree with this quote because if each culture celebrated cultural differences then there wouldn't be wars or misunderstandings between religious or political groups. Instead of pointing out what is wrong or right about other cultures we should celebrate diversity. This would help people gain proper perspective, which would reduce the issues in our society. Our cultural differences are what makes us special and unique. If everyone was the same the world would be a dull place. Learning about a new culture is an exciting experience and is something everyone should attempt and at least try.

Emani Roy
3/28/2014 04:23:21 pm

I agree with this quote. I agree because , I think we as people in general usually try to change the differences about us to be accepted to other people . And I think in today's society everyone is trying to be like everyone's else , that makes them the same . Instead of trying to be yourself and be diffrent , we as people , try to be the same as others just to be accepted and not made fun of just because someone's diffrent.
