THE LAST LESSON: WHAT WILL YOU CARRY?

Complete the assignment below. Use your Interactive Notebook ONLY to complete each level. Make sure you "design" your pages as creatively as possible so that they tell a complete story of who you are.

A few important things...

Please note that both books that make up your Interactive Notebook have to be filled and each page, back and front, has to be filled. If you were working in your Interactive Notebook all year long as instructed by me and within the syllabus, you won't have many pages to fill. However, if you were not working from your notebook all year long, you have no time to tarry.

From the beginning of this year, the following should have been going into your notebook: notes, Word Hoard, writing assignments, reading assignments, musings, doodles, etc. The fuller your Interactive Notebook is, the less you have to worry about. However, if you were not using your notebook, you'll have many pages to fill and they must all be filled, front and back.

Please make sure that you work on your "The Last Lesson" assignment each day. The assignment is worth multiple grades:

  • Daily Classwork grades;
  • 9 Weeks grade; and
  • Final Exam grade.

Along the way, you will have to document your progress on a Progress Chart that I provide. Your Daily Class grades will come from that.

Your deadline is according to the school's official exam schedule. The deadline will not be extended. Your deadline is the day indicated on the schedule according to when your exam is for my class, with NO exceptions. The schedule is also posted in the Resources section.

Do not sit in class and scroll, socialize, leave the room, go back and forth, go to other classrooms, etc. Stay in class and get the work done.
I hope to see some creative, fascinating books!

Hints: Try to combine some areas. For example, when you are writing out the interviews, use some of your PreK-12 photos as illustrations on each page.  Or, put information from your interview on each page. Just make sure that you decorate the entire project (all your pages) with color, stickers, ribbons, symbols, sticks, leaves, flowers, mini/small toys, pop-ups, etc., to make your book as unique as your life. Express yourself on each page. The only caveat: make sure the book can still close. Some students have had pop-out pages that, when you open them, they pop out past the notebook. However, they must fit back snug into the notebook once it is closed.

I cannot wait to see what y'all write so I can cry, becasue that's EXACTLY what's going to happen. THIS is finally goodbye. If I never see you again, I have these, I will see you again.
Also, these grades do not count for the Poetry Gumbo Project replacement grades.

Things to Consider

1. Time/Project Management. Where and when are you going to work on the project? How are you going to manage your time to create written and visual texts to meet your due date? You will need access to computers and anything else you think you will need.

2. Evaluation. The journey to a place is always more interesting than actually getting there. Make this project your final journey to your destination—a new chapter in your life. Take a creative approach by adding links, images (digital and hand-drawn), videos, etc., to make your online presence stand out. Have fun! Don't think outside the box...think as if there is no box!

3. Grading.
Your semester grade comes from the entire book being full. Your final exam grade comes from the rubric below.

Rubric

You'll be rated on your project based on the metrics outlined in this rubric:
