Support Museums!!

Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it. . .unless they visit a museum.

When you have some spare time, grab some friends or family and visit one of the places below. Be sure to check with your parents before going and determine if there is a charge for entry. Some places offer student discounts or free access!! This list is a work in progress and is not exhaustive. Dallas has a myriad of places where you may go to absorb culture. If you have a suggestion that may apply. check with me. You may be able to receive extra credit for your visit.

For extra credit, write a one page reflection of what you learned and the impact that information could have on others. Would you suggest others visit? Why or why not? Bring a ticket stub, or, if allowed, take pictures of yourself with some of the exhibits to verify your presence.

Latino Cultural Center

Picture
At the South Dallas Cultural Center, the black experience is more than just a slogan. With everything from classes for the education-minded to finger-poppin' jazz  jams for the young and the old hipsters, the SDCC, located just outside the Fair Park complex, is a  community resource for all Dallas residents. With a wide variety of programs  inspired by the vibrancy and diversity of the African Diaspora, the SDCC seeks  to educate and inspire through the visual, media, literary and performing  arts. The Janet Kennedy Gallery

Picture
The Janette Kennedy Gallery, formerly the South Side Gallery, was established in  2002 as a means for local artists, the Artist's Residency Program and the  Community at large to exhibit their works. This Gallery differs from other  galleries in that it does not administer a fee for use of the space nor has it  charged a commission on the pieces an artist sells.

The Janette Kennedy Gallery  gives the community artists the opportunity
to express themselves, where they  might otherwise have had a hard time finding exhibit space. It offers the  professional artists and national exhibits a unique venue with character and  energy in soulful South Dallas. Artists who have exhibited in the Gallery come  from all disciplines and have included medias such as sculpture, ceramics,  video, woodcuts, paintings, drawings, music, graphic art, found object and site  specific installations, from fine art to contemporary art. Atlas Brown's Soul Alive Poetry & Prose, Extrêmement Impressionnant!

Picture
Creative eclectic, and very chic French, atlas brown, has recently published the powerful, soul-stirring "Soul Alive Poetry & Prose." Just as the title indicates, the book is a kaleidoscope of thought-provoking poetry and prose that grabs readers and holds them there, tightly, from beginning to end. Breathtaking. ~delmetria millener
