The complex relationship between social media, crowdfunding, and the normalization of bigotry. The platforms themselves dont inherently condone hate speeches, but their design and lack of robust moderation can inadvertently amplify it. This reflects a broader of societal issues and harmful behaviors because the difference between groups of slurs and their use by their crucial selves perpetuate and reinforce power embalances.

I agree, the complex relationship of social media and self-esteem/feelings can make broader societal issues. The platforms express their mind and don't promote if something is wrong. Some people promote harmful behaviors but it really depends on the group and how they express themselves.

Malvaez M. 1A

Although social media doesn't show any type of discrimination themselves, they can indeed fix any moderations that does restrict people to express racial discrimination to others on their platform and it i believe that is should be priority that needs to be done across all social media platforms.

I agree, While social media and crowdfunding platforms may not openly support hate speech, their structure—favoring engagement and virality—can unintentionally elevate harmful voices. The lack of strong moderation allows bigotry to spread more easily, reflecting deeper societal problems. When slurs are used, especially outside of their original communities.

I feel like the complex of relationship between social media is crowdfunding and delves into the measurable effects of hate, such as reduced productivity, strained relationships, and financial losses for organizations and economies. The piece highlights that hate not only damages societal cohesion but also incurs significant economic costs, urging readers to consider the broader implications of intolerance.

Social Media has indeed created a platform in which people can openly be bigoted and supported for it, It tells us that we as society are full of ignorance and hatred. When Black and Brown people begin to call each other the N word not only are the people basically indirectly allowing people to say it freely by using it loosely, but also indirectly gives more power to the word by ¨re-claiming¨.

Tapia, R 1A
5/9/2025 09:38:47 am

I believe that social media has created an environment where people believe it's alright to act bigoted and out of control as when people act rash and unreasonable other see that as cool or something that makes others like you in a way.Society is a strange thing to talk about as lately it seems like we're encouraging bad behavior and not showing the harsh repercussion that come with bad decision as kids now are not listening and starting to do crimes and other things that could get them in a lot of trouble and we're so used to seeing celebrities get out of similar crimes but I hate to say it we're not them and it's not as easy as celebrities make it seem. The issue with others calling each other the N-Word is that it becomes natural and a something everyone can do which isn't true as I get some use it because it was introduced when they were younger and it has become natural but others most notibely people who don't understand the history nor the context others use it in.

Renteria R A 4A
5/9/2025 09:52:48 pm

I agree with your statement. Social media has definitely created a space where being loud, disrespectful, or even bigoted can bring attention and praise, especially when people mistake bad behavior for boldness or popularity. It's concerning how society seems to reward negativity while downplaying the serious consequences that come with it.

Bronson M, 3A
5/9/2025 10:50:13 am

Social media and crowdfunding platforms created ecosystems where being publicly bigoted is acceptable because of certain groups and what they believe. This shows society is coming together right or wrong their speaking on what they feel and believe. Social media is a platform people express themselves on. There are always haters in society and people who make mistakes online too. I don't care about black and brown people calling each other the N-word because I'm white.

Social Media and crowdfunding platforms does play a major role in racism and discrimination colored people face in our society today, it isn't all to blame for. Society shouldn't normalized public racism and discrimination, rather it should be something on social media that should be motivated on stopping all types of discrimination. I believe discrimination shouldn't be normalized anywhere in the world

Guzman X. 6B
5/9/2025 04:21:46 pm

You're right—social media plays a role, but society itself also allows racism to thrive. These platforms should be used to fight discrimination, not normalize it.

Cavazos N 6B

I agree, social media should not be used to spread hate, instead it should be used to bring people together.

Fuentez M 3A
5/10/2025 12:32:08 am

I agree with what you say, Social media say that racism is okay and being hateful is okay thing to do . Society needs to understand if they keep this up its going to be back to discriminating minoritys for their skin color. History can repeat itself if we dont learn from the past.

younger, k 1A
5/9/2025 12:52:14 pm

Social media and crowdfunding can sometimes make hateful ideas more popular because people get attention and money for saying bad things. This can lead to a world where doing the wrong thing is rewarded instead of stopped. The N-word is tricky because some Black and Brown people use it with friends, but it still has a painful history, making it hard to decide if it should be used at all.

Alvarez J 8B
5/9/2025 03:56:45 pm

There's unfortunately no real consequences to the people who do bad things just because they are behind the screen and know that they can get what they want because people who are exactly like them support their actions.

Curlee A, 4A
5/9/2025 07:16:14 pm

See I do think there CAN be consequences, it's just not as quick or effective as in real life. Sure you can hide behind a screen, but what happens when someone does a background check, or you get famous? Suddenly, you're in a news article, and being canceled on twitter.

Sanchez A 3A
5/9/2025 01:33:16 pm

Social media has played a role in creating a space where public bigoted is acceptable, this is saying how we abuse the first amendment on these platforms. The difference is that not everyone knows when and how to use the N-word its nothing something anyone can say.

Curlee A, 4A
5/9/2025 07:14:07 pm

"Social media made y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it."

Agreed. Social media often gives people a false sense of freedom to say harmful things without consequences.

Miles D 4A

I agree social media is only allowing these peole to be able to run and hide from their actions without actually having to take responsibility.

Cavazos N 6B
5/9/2025 10:53:06 pm

I agree, some social medias allow people to say hateful things without any repercussions.

Alvarez J 8B
5/9/2025 03:36:45 pm

Social media has allowed bigotry and discrimination thrive due to the fact that these people hide behind the screen and know that the individuals calling them out in their wrong doings could not do anything to them. Others believe that it's funny to make fun of situations like this and actually make things worse because it encourages behavior like this. Brown and black people calling each other the N-word on a daily basis has desensitized them from the meaning and the importance of who's allowed to use it.

Guzman X. 6B
5/9/2025 04:20:58 pm

You're right—social media gives people a false sense of protection, making it easier for them to spread hate without facing real consequences, and the normalization of offensive behavior through humor only fuels that cycle. The casual use of the N-word within Black and Brown communities can blur its painful history, but that doesn’t make it acceptable for others to use or excuse public bigotry.

Castillo V, 6B
5/9/2025 10:22:31 pm

I agree social media has allowed it to thrive and not caring about what others might say or think.

Garcia M 4A
5/9/2025 03:49:24 pm

Social media and crowdfunding platforms have created ecosystems where being publicly bigoted is acceptable to some extent, indicating a decline in moral standards. It reflects poorly on society, indicating a decline in moral standards and a prioritization of personal gain over ethical behavior. This perpetuates the painful history and impact of the word.

Rodriguez Y. A1
5/9/2025 03:56:49 pm

What it says about society when something that's wrong is excused and celebrated is that we haven't matured, that we do not take anything seriously and that we don't see values, traditions by their worth or pay attention to their seriousness. This is an issue specially when words like the N word are used on a daily basis, most people don't fully grasp how offensive it truly is, and others throw it around as if has no meaning, It's understandable that now a days it used as a form to call a pal, but it doesn't make it right.

Guzman X. 6B
5/9/2025 04:19:37 pm

Yes, social media and crowdfunding platforms have created spaces where public bigotry is not only acceptable but often rewarded, as seen in cases like Shiloh Hendrix raising hundreds of thousands after using a racial slur. This reflects a society where wrongdoing can be incentivized and celebrated, revealing how hate can become a profitable identity in certain political circles. While some Black and Brown people use the N-word in reclaimed, community-specific contexts, that does not justify or equate to public racist abuse, which carries a different history and intent.

Gomez D, 1A
5/9/2025 11:04:50 pm

yes i agree with you social media has normalized saying so many racial slurs nobody is fazed by it anymore

Curlee A, 4A
5/9/2025 07:11:35 pm

1. Social media has most certainly created/enforced many echo chambers. An echo chamber is just any environment were a person(s) ideologies are supported, reinforced, and unchallenged.
2. As these echo chambers grow, people tend to support a "group(s)" actions. Despite said group or ideology generally having bad practices. In the context of the article, this leads to people like Hendrix not only being praised for terrible actions, but also compensated with real money.
3. The "N-word" is engraved within black culture, and over the course of literal centuries, it is only now that word is being used in a (typically) friendly manner. Not to mention, it is usually black people, saying it to other black people. Now this differs completely when a white woman uses the hard R in a racist way, on purpose might I add.

Mijangos, A 4A
5/9/2025 10:19:23 pm

I agree very much. Social media has definitely created places where people only hear ideas they already agree with, so their views never get challenged.

Aiyanyo E 3A
5/9/2025 11:55:55 pm

I agree that social media has made it easy for people with bad intentions to make a quick buck via crowdfunding.

Renteria R A 4A
5/9/2025 09:50:39 pm

Social media and crowdfunding platforms sometimes reward bigotry by turning it into content, giving hate a stage and even profit. This shows a society where doing wrong can be celebrated if it gains attention. Meanwhile, when Black and Brown people use the N-word, it reflects deep history and internal struggle, not the same as public hate. The real issue is how society punishes or praises people unequally, often ignoring the deeper context.

Castillo V, 6B
5/9/2025 10:21:04 pm

Yes I agree the society in this moment is not all right.

Miles D 4A
5/9/2025 10:39:06 pm

I agree social media has created a space where people can hide behind their following and profit off their actions.

Lopez H 4A
5/9/2025 11:39:45 pm

Exactly, many people have started to be rewarded for their apalling behavior and yes many people who have dealt with oppression and struggles have the right to use the n-word how they want.

Mijangos, A 4A
5/9/2025 10:08:46 pm

Social media can amplify harmful behavior by rewarding outrage and controversy with attention and money, creating ecosystems where people can thrive under the guise of “free speech.” This reflects a society driven by spectacle rather than accountability. However, comparing this to how Black communities use the N-word overlooks the context of reclaiming language within a shared history of oppression which is something people often misunderstand or misuse.

Gomez D, 1A
5/9/2025 11:00:17 pm

I agree with you social media has rewarded bad behavior and have never really grasped the true consequences of their behavior or their actions

Aiyanyo E 3A
5/9/2025 11:57:52 pm

I agree. Social media doesn't care if you are a bad person or good person unfortunately. If you create drama, fame, and a controversy. Society will reward you for that.

Castillo V, 6B
5/9/2025 10:18:26 pm

Social media and crowdfunding platforms have created an atmosphere when being publicly bigoted is acceptable. A lot of people take advantage once they get attention and benefit from it like in this case this person raised money because of something she said and people thinking it is okay. Its shows that society in this generation is out of control.

Miles D 4A
5/9/2025 10:36:32 pm

Social media has created a space for people who can say and do what they feel is just and have a comunity that will back them when they are rightfuly called out for their actions. This shows that society will be more likely to defend somebody in the wrong if its what is getting attention. The problem with black and brown people saying the N-word usually in a friendly manner is that somebody who doesn't know any better will see that then call black or brown people the N- word in a racist way and claim them saying it as something else to make it seem like they are the victim.

Lopez H 4A
5/9/2025 11:21:04 pm

I agree. Many people have been showing their true colors on social media and there are many others following their footsteps and supporting this behavior, and yes, many people pull off the "I didn't know" card when in reality they did know about how bad their actions are

Gomez D, 1A
5/9/2025 10:46:08 pm

social media had for sure made a lot of things that are unacceptable acceptable like so many things that are wrong they have excused it by just brushing it off and not making such a big deal about it and its not acceptable on how much things have just been brushed off and they don't fully grasp the severity of things

Palacios R 1A
5/9/2025 11:31:15 pm

it is sad how people are in today society

Cavazos N 6B
5/9/2025 10:53:38 pm

From what I have seen from social media platforms like Twitter, it has been accepted to say bigoted and racist remarks. You can find posts on Twitter which have tens to hundreds of thousands of likes celebrating racists remarks. Because there are safe spaces where you can be openly a racist and be praised for it as a society we are progressing backwards instead of forward. This is an issue because although Black and Brown people call each other the N-word, that word has a deep meaning.

Palacios R 1A
5/9/2025 11:27:37 pm

Yes Twitter can be easily be a good example of bigoted people

Palacios R 1A
5/9/2025 11:15:51 pm

Instagram users was seen doing racial and offensive content as people see it funny. In this case, yes social media has created people to become bigoted. Without offending, online it’s often seeing some white people being recorded as seeing in this picture. Today Hispanic and black people use the n word to each other either offending or just talking whatever as bros.

Lopez H 4A
5/9/2025 11:16:17 pm

Lately, many people have gotten way too comfortable on social media to express their racist and bigoted beliefs. And this has been shown mostly since Trump has gotten into office, there have been many people who say many racist things and seem to receive little to no repercussions about it. And even though many Black and Brown people do use the N-Word on a regular basis it means something entirely different that stems from struggles as well as oppression.

Aiyanyo E 3A
5/9/2025 11:54:58 pm

Unfortunately, social media and crowdfunding have been rewarding racism due to the amount of controversy that these types of people cause for themselves. This shows that how society has shifted away from being a good person to being a person that will do anything for clout. The reason black people call each other the N word is because they took that word that was used against them to a slang word exclusively for said race.

Fuentez M 3A
5/10/2025 12:27:49 am

Yes , i know that social media and crowdfunding platforms where being publicly bigoted is acceptable. its sad to see how we are giving the public who are hate criming people even children just to do it for content we arent showing what people do is wrong. Many of them take is as dark humor when its not . Our society has been messed up ever since we started to give our 5 year old kids the right to be online , We arent teaching people what they are doing is wrong , but we arent telling them to take accountability for their own action. it is wronf because one she is WHITE . As a white person who used to use that slur back then to the slaves. The slaves bared all the pain while the white people called them a slur and hurt them. History matters. For this women to call a CHILD an N word and record him and continue to harrase him is repeating history.

Knowles K 1A
5/10/2025 12:45:26 am

Social media and crowdfunding has become a very negative space due to controversy around the internet with that comes with different people with different opinions then there are those who will just do anything for clicks. Also Black people use the N word as either as an insult or a greeting depending on the situation
