Success = Family Support

9/8/2026

Picture
There is a lot of controversy over whether a person should be responsible for changing their family’s financial situation if they became wealthy.

For some people, success means making sure everyone they love is taken care of. For others, becoming successful doesn’t mean becoming financially responsible for everyone around them. It draws a line between where generosity end and obligation begins.

Whether your family sacrificed for you or not, or if helping becomes expected instead of appreciated, by most standards, if you become wealthy, you "owe" people in your family, just because you're related.

Let's Write! If you become wealthy, should you be expected to take care of your family financially?

To a certain extent, I would help my immediate family make sure their finances are okay and make sure they have money in their pocket for emergency.

I do agree that being able to make sure your immediate family's finances are steady to be a smart idea just in case they have an emergency, but what if they turned your back on you or did not help you before you became wealthy? There should be some sort of personal requirements for taking care of someone financially, but that is up to the individual, and entirely on if they want to, or not.

I agree you should give back to your immediate family, especially if they helped you growing up!

I totally agree with you but I also get why you might not want to give some.

I agree, you should at least give back to the people who have been there with you every step of your life.

I agree with you in the mind on helping your family but friends try to go and take some depending on who you are and if they think you are a pushover

Fuentes, A. 7B
9/10/2026 03:07:48 pm

I do not believe that you are financially responsible for your family if you are to suddenly, or generally, become wealthy if they did not give you the support needed. However, I do believe that if you have a good relationship with your family, and they helped you at your lowest when you needed it, you should offer some help to relieve them of the stress their situation may be causing.

Moore, A 6B
9/11/2026 07:19:48 am

I agree and you made a good point about the part where you said that if they did not support you through your hardest times you do not have too, even though I personally would have depending on the situation.

Munoz, Y. 1A
9/11/2026 09:11:55 am

I agree if your family was always supporting you and there for you it would be nice to pay it back and help them out. Because it can take some stress away from any financial issues they may have been dealing with in silence.

McGee, C. 2A

I agree, you are not obligated to provide for your family anytime you get money.

I agree with that as well, you arent obligated to provide for your family when you get money but you can definitely help out for sure.

Espino, E. 2A
9/11/2026 11:36:15 am

I agree with you because I feel like being wealthy doesn't automatically mean you are responsible for everyone financially. However,if you have a good relationship with your family and they have supported you, I think it would be a nice thing to help them out in any way you can, weather it's with groceries, bills, spending quality time together, or anything like that.

Castro, E. 2A
9/11/2026 11:40:58 am

I believe the same, I have a lot of family members like aunts and uncles that have not only helped me but my family as well, and they never expected anything back because of their kindness if I were to ever become wealthy I would like to give back to them, even if it wasn't fully giving them financial stability but something that could show my great fullness for their help.

Rollins, I 2A
9/11/2026 11:54:29 am

I do still think you should still help like morally rather you have a good or bad relationship with them but that's just my opinion I still agree with this for the most part.

Keeling j 4A
9/11/2026 03:08:41 pm

You make a valid point because you should be able to do what you want with your money no matter if it’s family there are a lot of different things that play into part depending on who I’m your family was always nice and helpful

Moore, A 6B
9/11/2026 07:14:26 am

I feel like you should be expected to help. It would be a nice thing to do. If you see a family member is going through a hard time and you have enough money or at least some to help them out I feel like that would be the right thing to do.

Espino, E. 2A
9/11/2026 08:50:52 am

I agree with you because I feel like if you have the ability to help a family member, you should try in anyway to help them. Even if it's not a lot of money, it can still make a difference and show that you care.

Omyia Smith

I agree with your point that helping your family should come from appreciation instead of feeling forced to do it. If your parents worked hard and supported you growing up, helping them when you become successful can be a good way to show how thankful you are. I also think it is important to remember that every family situation is different, so not everyone will feel the same responsibility.

Munoz, Y. 1A
9/11/2026 09:16:13 am

I understand what you mean and I agree to some extent it would be nice to help out but I also believe that you never know how their family was to them and if they ever supported them. I don't think you should be expected to help out if they never supported or helped you when you needed them..

Rollins, I 2A

I don't think you shouldnt be obligated to but If they are going through a hard time I think you should help them.

I agree with you if someone in your family needs support financially theres nothing wrong with helping them.

Espino, E. 2A
9/11/2026 08:53:35 am

I believe that if you become wealthy, you should not be expected to take care of your family financially, because every family is different and you never know what happens behind closed doors. However I do believe that if your family always tried their best for you then you should want to give back to them. For example, I know my mom and dad work hard to provide for me and their other kids. If I ever became wealthy, I would want to make sure they are financially stable and don't have to struggle because I would be thankful for everything they did for me growing up. To me helping my family would not feel like an obligation, but more like a way of showing them that I appreciate everything they have done for me.

Castro, E. 2A
9/11/2026 11:38:14 am

I agree, my parents have also worked hard for me and my siblings, I've also seen them always helping my other family members when they could, so I would love to make my parents financially stable.

Gonzalez, J 4A

I agree with you, you never know what happens behind closed door. I feel like that is a major factor. If your family treated you horribly and expect you to take care of them I feel like they out of they mind. Maybe helping for something but to take care of them as if they cant take care of them selves no.

I believe you should not automatically be financially responsible for your family if you become wealthy.Yes, it would kind to lend a hand here and there and take something off of their plate of things they need but you are not required to pay for everything. This can be different for many people because everyone grew up different but I feel like you don't have too if you don't want too.

Smith, O, 4A
9/11/2026 10:24:34 am

I agree with your point that helping your family does not mean you have to pay for everything. I think there is a difference between helping someone when they truly need it and becoming responsible for all of their financial problems. If you become wealthy, you should be able to decide how much you want to give while still taking care of your own future.

Fuentes, A. 7B
9/11/2026 10:29:42 am

I think you made a very valid point that it would be kind to help take things off of someone's plate if possible, but that you should not be immediately responsible for their struggles. I also like that you said that it is different for everyone due to their upbringing, and that they should not feel compelled to help someone if they do not feel as though it is worth it based on the situation, or if they truly don't want to.

Smith, O. 4A
9/11/2026 10:20:38 am

I agree with your point that family support should matter when deciding whether you should help them financially. If someone was there for you when you were struggling, helping them later can be a way of showing appreciation. At the same time, I think it is important to consider each situation because becoming wealthy does not automatically make you responsible for everyone in your family.

McGee, C. 2A
9/11/2026 11:28:43 am

You are not expected to provide for your family automatically when you get money. If you want to lend a hand for family then you can help out with whatever. It is your choice to do whatever you want with your money whether you want to help out with family or not.

Duarte, H 4A
9/11/2026 02:49:06 pm

I agree with your point, when you first get money you shouldnt be responsible to provide for your family, which you can definitely lend a hand and help out your family a bit but definitely not fully provide.

Castro, E. 2A
9/11/2026 11:35:16 am

While it's entirely understandable why family members might hope or assume that a newly wealthy relative might support them financially, no one should ever feel obligated or required to do so. True financial help has to stem from a genuine desire to give out of personal kindness and generosity, rather than being driven by guilt, entitlement, or heavy pressure, Furthermore, clear boundaries often depends on the dynamic and closeness of the relationships of the family, what someone might willingly offer to their immediate household or parents may look very difficult or unreasonable when the same is expected from extended relatives, especially if there isn't a good bond between them. Personally, for my immediate family like my parents, I would love to give them financially freedom and help them retire so they can enjoy their older years, and for my siblings I would definitely at least give them a monthly allowance.

Halton, S. 3A
9/11/2026 01:24:49 pm

I agree, because if you do want to support your family financially, it should be from generosity. No one should feel obligated to financially support anyone.

Rollins, I 2A
9/11/2026 11:40:51 am

I don't think you should be obligated to help your family financially because most if not all of your success is because of the hard work you put in to be successful. I think it really depends on the person because me personally, I would help my family out. Take them on vacations, take them nice dinners and give them some money to get by for a couple years and of course, if they needed help I would gladly help them but I wouldn't say your obligated to but it is a persons choice to help his/her family if they become financially successful.

Bryan Rincon
9/11/2026 02:41:51 pm

I totally agree with you but we can also disagree with that. I get your point, but I also disagree because they financially supported you so I think you should of at least give them a little compensation.

Robledo, J 2A
9/11/2026 11:44:55 am

I think it depends like if it was my mother of course I'll take care of her since she always took care of me but it really depends on the person your not obligated too but that if you want too.

Halton S, 3A
9/11/2026 01:39:43 pm

I agree because some people choose to financially support their parents because your parents financially supported you and helped you get to where you are. I believe parents should be the only exception.

Halton, S. 3A
9/11/2026 12:41:38 pm

I believe that no one should truly feel obligated to financially provide for their family if they become wealthy. The person who became wealthy may have had family support, but most of the hard work and dedication comes from them. I do believe the person should show appreciation to whoever gave them the support that led them to become wealthy.

I believe that when it comes to taking care of your family it all depends on the situation and person. For some people expecting is a bit of a stretch. When it comes to your parents taking care of you. That is their responsibility. And for sure I don't believe that taking care of any immediate family is ones responsibility and those expectations shouldn't be placed upon them. In my case I would help my immediate family because I'm very grateful for what they have done for me although it is their responsibility. So I believe that no one should be placed under the expectation of taking care of family especially as a son or daughter because it isn't their obligation, if you receive help you should should be grateful not expecting it.
