AI: A Classroom Cheat Code?

9/24/2026

Picture
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can write essays, solve math problems, answer questions, and complete assignments in seconds. What once took students hours to finish can now be done with just a few clicks.

Some schools are restricting students from using AI because they believe it encourages cheating and prevents students from developing their own thinking skills. Other schools are teaching students how to use AI responsibly because they believe it is a skill students will need in college, the workplace, and everyday life.

But you have to wonder whether students are actually learning if AI can do most of the work for them.

Students have always used tools to help them learn (or cheat), from calculators and dictionaries to Google and YouTube. AI is just the latest technology changing how students complete their schoolwork. The difference is that AI can do more than help students find answers. It can create the answers for them.

This raises an important question about the purpose of education if . Are students going to school to complete assignments, or are they going to school to learn how to think for themselves?

Let's Write! If AI can write essays, solve math problems, and answer almost any question, what is the point of going to school and do you think schools should ban AI or teach students how to use it?

REMINDERS

**Set a weekly alarm or calendar timer.
Whatever you do to remember other important events, I'd do the same for this assignment.

**Don't wait until the last minute. Telling me that you didn't do the assignment on Friday because you broke your leg, for example, on Thursday will not do anything for you when you've had a week. Be responsible and accountable.

**How to post. Click in the top right hand corner or the lower left hand corner where it says Comments to access the discussion board. Once there, scroll to the bottom of the page to post a Reply. After, choose comments from at least two students from any class and Reply to what they wrote.

CAUTION!! Do NOT embarrass me, yourself, your class, the English department, the school, your family or your upbringing with tasteless, meaningless comments. This is for a grade.

DISCLAIMER: If you do not respond AND comment on TWO others, you will not receive credit for this assignment. If you do not write your name correctly, and I don't see your work, you will not receive credit for this assignment. If you use profanity, you will not receive credit for the work. It's all or nothing.

I think the main purpose of going to school is to learn how to think, solve problems, communicate, and develop skills that we can use in real life. AI can be helpful, but I do not think students should depend on it to do all of their work. If AI writes an entire essay or solves every problem for a student, they may get the assignment done without actually understanding what they were supposed to learn.

However, I do not think schools should completely ban AI either. AI is becoming a part of everyday life, college, and many careers, so students should learn how to use it responsibly. Students could use AI to brainstorm ideas, explain something they do not understand, check their grammar, or get feedback on their work while still doing the actual thinking themselves.

I believe the important thing is how students use AI. There is a difference between using AI as a tool to help you learn and using it to do your work for you. Schools should teach students how to use AI responsibly instead of banning it completely. That way, students can benefit from the technology while still developing their own skills and learning how to think for themselves.

I agree with your point because AI can be helpful for students when it is used as a learning tool, but it can also become a problem when students rely on it to do all their work. I think having rules for AI instead of completely banning it would be a good way to help students learn how to use it responsibly.

I agree that schools should not outright ban AI because of its implementations in everyday life as of now. As you stated, it should be used to help us brainstorm, and help us formulate our ideas if we are struggling, but not be how we do our work from start to finish.

I agree that AI should be regulated instead of completely banned. Your point about students using it to do their work instead of helping them come up with ideas is important because that can prevent them from actually learning. I think having clear rules about when AI can be used would help. Students could use it for brainstorming or getting explanations, but they should still be responsible for completing and understanding their own work.

I believe that students should be taught how to use AI effectively and efficiently because it is going to be a tool used in the real world, so restricting it is detrimental to a student's future outside of the classroom. However, I do believe that AI is harmful to the school environment because it is used by students to do their work for them instead of helping them formulate their ideas; therefore, I believe that it should be heavily regulated, but not banned completely, so that students can learn how to use it correctly.

I agree with what you said because Al can be a useful tool when students use it to support their learning instead of doing everything for them. I also think teaching students how to use Al responsibly would prepare them for situations they may face in college and future careers.

I agree with you as well because in this generation Ai is commonly used through day-to-day life. and most schools restrict it as if it isn't a good learning tool .

Artificial intelligence is becoming more common in the world around us, especially in jobs, businesses, and everyday activities. Because of this, I think schools should teach students how to work with AI instead of completely keeping it away from them. Learning how to use new technology is an important skill that students may need when they graduate and enter the workforce. However, there also needs to be a limit on how much students depend on AI. If someone uses AI to write every assignment, answer every question, or do all of their thinking, they are missing the opportunity to actually learn. This can make it harder for students to develop important skills such as problem-solving, creativity, writing, and critical thinking. Schools should allow students to use AI in certain situations while also making clear rules about what is acceptable. For example, students could use it to brainstorm ideas, understand difficult topics, or improve their work, but they should still be responsible for creating their own final answers. AI can be useful when it is used as support, but it should not replace a student’s effort. Teaching students the right way to use AI would help them become more prepared for a future where technology will likely be a normal part of their lives.

I like the way that you're articulating that teaching students to use AI as a tool, and not as the solution is what we should be doing. It is heavily important that we should be taught how to use it responsibly without depending on AI to do all of our work for us because it will very soon be a normal part of our lives like it already is now.

The point of going to school is to build human thinking skills, resilience, and social growth rather than just memorize facts or produce a finished paper. Schools should teach students how to use AI responsibly rather than ban it completely, so students learn to question, verify, and guide these tools rather than let them replace deep thought.

I agree with you on how schools should teach students to use AI responsibly. It can be really easy to get carried away with AI and its tools, so learning to us it the right way is the most effective form of using it.

D Dunlap, 6B
9/25/2026 10:20:04 am

I agree with "The point of going to school is to build human thinking skills, resilience, and social growth rather than just memorize facts or produce a finished paper". I feel like school has taught us to memorize facts or produce a finished paper rather than teaching us correctly. Due to this we do whatever it takes to get a 'Passing grade" rather than learn.

Hewitt D
9/28/2026 03:37:10 pm

I agree with your point that school is still important because students need to learn how to think and work with other people, not just get answers. I also like your idea of using AI as a tool instead of letting it complete everything. For example, students could use AI to explain a problem they are stuck on or give them feedback, but then they should still solve the problem themselves. That would let students benefit from AI without missing out on actually learning the material.

Legend,L 1B
9/25/2026 08:58:02 am

While AI can write essays, solve complex math problems, and answer information queries instantly, going to school remains essential because education is about developing critical thinking, social collaboration, and analytical reasoning skills technology cannot replicate. School teaches us how to evaluate sources, question assumptions, and verify whether AI answers are accurate or biased. Learning how to formulate ideas, communicate with others, and apply knowledge in real-world contexts goes far beyond merely retrieving answers. They should find away to get students to use AI as a tool to help other than answering all the questions cause they wont learn nothing off that if they just getting the answers.

D Bess Jr 7B

On one hand, Ai can serve as a powerful personalized tutor, helping students brainstorm ideas, outline papers,or break down complex mathematical concepts. However, relying on Ai to write Ai entire essays or complete assignments defeats the purpose of education.

education is deeply embedded in the daily lives of students, and the integration of new teaching methodologies is essential for enhancing learning. While artificial intelligence has been frequently misused by students, this behavior stems from a lack of experience and time with a newly introduced technology.

Moore A, 6B

We go to school to learn essential academic skills, build social habits, and prepare for our future careers. Ai is not going away and since its coming more popular. I feel like teachers should teach us how to use it in a smart way with still learning on our own.

Esparza, C 6B
9/25/2026 09:59:52 am

The point of going to school is to properly memorize and learn different subjects. I believe that because AI is becoming a part of everyday life, schools should teach students how to use AI effectively. Banning AI would probably not work in the long run because big websites that schools use, like Google, already have their own versions of AI implemented in their websites. Even then, students would more than likely find ways to bypass the block. Therefore, because the usage of AI is inevitable, I believe schools should find ways to effectively use it rather than ban it.

Jacob, E 6B
9/25/2026 10:06:50 am

I think they shouldn't ban AI because it can be helpful and be used to a person's advantage but not all people think the same some use it to complete work in an instant while some gain the knowledge and understanding of how to use it and would use that knowledge in the later future.

D Da'Vion 6B
9/25/2026 10:12:33 am

The point of going to school is still to learn and learn the skills needed in life. School is very much needed because we gain more than just learning our subjects. School is basically a job where we wake up early and attend for about 8 hours which is something people need to get accustomed to. I do not believe that schools should ban AI, instead teach us how to use it properly. In my opinion AI wouldn't be such an issue in school if school was about teaching. I feel like currently school is more about just passing than teaching us properly which causes students to use AI to finish an assignment and get a good grade.

Tyler Fernandez
9/25/2026 10:59:22 am

Education is deeply embedded in the daily lives of students, and the integration of new teaching methodologies is essential for enhancing learning. While artificial intelligence has been frequently misused by students, this behavior stems from a lack of experience and time with a newly introduced technology. This initial misuse does not justify academic dishonesty, but it demonstrates that AI should not be banned. Instead, educational institutions must harness its vast potential by implementing guileless for its proper use, as the technology is currently just poorly managed.

I think students are going for both or rather that there are two different types of students that do either or/both. There are many students who go to school to learn and develop certain skills to be successful in life, but others go just to get it over with already because sooooo many students hate school. But, even though there's two types (could be more) both of them can have the same traits. A student who just wants to get it over with could still go to learn a little bit of something so they can be a little successful and the ones who go to learn could still just want to get it over with by using AI. So, I think that using AI is completely fine you just have to know how to use it properly.

School is an important place where people learn and develop essential skills for the real world. It helps many develop critical thinking through everyday problem solving, while the social environment encourages constant interaction and public speaking. I think that whether we like it or not, AI, is becoming and will most likely continue to be an ever growing human advancement. Because AI is evolving rapidly and becoming a fundamental part of modern industries, learning to work alongside it is essential for future success for some. Trying to enforce a total band will be nearly unrealistic, as students will always find ways to access AI tools both inside and outside of school. Rather than attempting to block technology that is reshaping the world, schools should teach students how to use it ethically and effectively as a tool to enhance their own thinking rather than trying to replace, their own critical thinking. However, relying too heavily on AI comes with significant drawbacks. If students use AI to complete all their assignments, they risk undermining their own ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and come up with their own ideas. Ultimately, the impact of AI depends on personal morals and integrity. While AI can be a powerful assistant, choosing whether to use it as a shortcut to cheat or a tool to expand one's knowledge comes down to personal responsibility and ethics.

H. Duarte 4A
9/28/2026 02:53:01 pm

I think students should teach students how to use it instead of banning it completely. AI can be very useful and not just in a cheating manner, it can help give ideas and to be more creative with your work, AI is a tool not a cheat code. AI should be used in the right way as a second hand thinker. AI should be an essential tool instead of banning it.

I don't think schools should completely ban AI. AI is becoming a part of everyday life, and students will probably use it in college and in future jobs. Instead of pretending AI does not exist, schools should teach students how to use it responsibly. For example, students could use AI to brainstorm ideas, explain something they don't understand, or check their work, but they should still write their own final answers and be able to explain what they learned.

I think schools should ban AI because students will use it to cheat and avoid doing the work, so they don't get a proper education.

But I also think AI can be helpful in schools by helping students get a better understanding of information that a teacher could probably not explain well, also AI can help students with small stuff like grammar checks, wrong equations, and etc.

Khloe Williams 8B
10/1/2026 10:54:42 am

Instead of banning AI which is impractical given its prevalence in modern workplaces and higher education schools should focus on teaching students how to use AI responsibly as a learning tool rather than a replacement for thought. Much like calculators changed how we approach mathematics, AI should be integrated into the classroom to assist with brainstorming, research, and draft revision while keeping the primary focus on genuine student comprehension and independent effort.

Going to school helps students learn new things and helps students get good grades. I think schools should teach students how to use AI because it helps them with different school subjects such as Social Studies, math, science, and English. even tho AI can write essays, solve problems, and answer almost any question doesn't mean school is just completely useless now. school is the whole reason we have AI in the first place, but let's actually think about if everyone on planet earth stop going to school and started using AI instead. we have basically said we are done using our brain and now using AI as our brain. so that means no more challenging the brain,no more hard work,no more critical thinking just AI. which means we have basically gave up on life because what is life without a little hardship so to answer the question I think yes AI should be ban in all school, not to say it's useless just that it can do everything we can just better so we should start doing better.
